To: Professor McCleary From: Jonathan Ma, Jordain Wilson, Yousef Alabdulgader & Karoline Petersen Date: 21 February 2019 Subject: Progress Report of Group Name and Further Development of Design Idea Part 1: Overview of Project The overview of this project has fallen into the categories of recreation and electronics. Our team has decided on the idea of producing blinds, named Rotary Blinds, with multiple settings using the concept of a rotary phone. The product will help set the blinds at different settings easier than the old fashion way with a lift cord. The idea also includes the possibility of setting the blinds to go from one setting to another at a set time if wished. We are incorporating the initial idea of using a mechanical function and recreation. Part 2: Prior Week’s Work (14 February 2019) Last week the class was spent on getting closer to a final design idea. This was accomplished when we settled at the idea of designing a blind using the concept of a rotary phone for the different settings for the blinds. We used the idea from the week of February 7th using an engine or a wheel attached to some- thing to add a function to an item.
· Group name · Additional design ideas resulting in a final design idea · Introduced to the group notebook
Part 3: Tonight’s Work (21 February 2019) During tonight class the main focus was a collaborative group exercise where a profile sheet on parents and an engineering instructor was made. The profile sheet was used to create a brainstorming list of the style considerations we would keep in mind when writing to either parents or a professor. Furthermore, we each made a checklist for future document preparation. The list included items that target our indi- vidual known problems in communication. Finally, a product name was found, Rotary Blinds.
· Collaborative group exercise · Product name · Patents · Target market and audience analysis · Time/task chart
Part 4: Next Week’s Homework (28 February 2019)
· Jonathan Ma: patent search · Jordain Wilson: target market · Yousef Alabdulgader: audience analysis · Karoline Petersen: time/task chart
Part 5: Complications There is a small complication in finding or designing a letterhead everyone in the group approves. We have a main idea, but the final details still has to be made before we have a final letter head.
