Licensure, certification, and accreditation in healthcare facilities.
Licensure in relation to healthcare facilities refers to the permission granted by the state to the healthcare facility to carry out its services based on the professionals' competencies, (Biller-Andorno & Capron,2016). The license is thus recognized in the entire state and serves to inform the public that the healthcare facility is efficient in its services. For the hospital to be licensed, it is evaluated through various assessment requirements and licensed based on the performance.
Certification in healthcare facilities applies to the workers, that is, the healthcare providers in the hospital. It is voluntarily done to the providers where the entire team is assessed based on the laid necessities by a government agency. This mainly serves to prove that the healthcare providers in the healthcare facility have the required skills and can offer the needed services. Healthcare facilities use these certificates when employing healthcare providers.
Accreditation, on the other hand, is where a healthcare facility is evaluated by a government agency and accredited based on its standards of performance. It is therefore evident that accreditation is not meant for an individual but for the whole organization or healthcare facility, (Newhouse & Normand,2017). The standards to be met by the facility mostly include its safety to the patients or workers, the quality of services offered by the facility which includes its efficiency and whether the services provided are genuine. Thus the government agency accredits the healthcare facility based on these standards.
Requirements and responsibilities of healthcare facilities to ensure they are certified, accredited and licensed.
In order to ensure that it is licensed, accredited or certified, the healthcare facility has to perform the following responsibilities: The staff of the facility including the employer should have undergone an educational training in a medical school, did an exam and passed in order for it to be licensed. Disciplinary records should also be straight for the facility to be licensed in case they go to another state. The facility should also employ staff that is certified in order to be certain about their skills. Certification in the healthcare facility thus entails the healthcare providers employed to work in it and also the employer. In this, the hospital should make a mandatory requirement for the certification of every member of staff.
The facility should also Ensure that the standard of its services is in accordance with the required level in order to be accredited. These standards include the safety of patients or the staff. The services offered in the hospital should be totally harmless to the patients visiting the hospital and the entire workforce. The hospital should also ensure the safety of its surrounding locality. These include how the hospital disposes of its wastes.
The efficiency of the hospital in the provision of its services is also another standard that the facility has to meet. The professionals employed should thus be competent in the field of healthcare.
The healthcare facility should also prove its validity by ensuring that it offers genuine services for genuine payment. Healthcare is a very sensitive area in the industry and should thus be handled with care. It should not focus on profits but majorly on the welfare of the entire society. The services offered in the hospital should thus be genuine for it to be accredited.
Licensure, certification and accreditation in healthcare providers.
Certifications are pieces of evidence that one finds for proof that they are qualified in healthcare and thus have the required skills. Certification requires one to be evaluated with a certain agency in the government. This agency determines requirements to the candidates and evaluates them based on what they test. The candidate, therefore, has to pass the test in order to be awarded the certificate. Thereafter, the candidate can use the certificate to acquire a job.
Licensure is mainly the process through which a certain agency of the government gives one permission to carry out his or her profession based on the skills they have. This is done to show that the skilled individual is very competent in his or her occupation and can be trusted by people requiring the service. Licensure is common especially in healthcare facilities where doctors or clinical officers and nurse are required to be licensed. Licensing here involves one being assessed based on the needed requirements and licensed based on their performance. Licenses are different from certificates because they are awarded by the state and not by a government agency.
Requirements and responsibilities of healthcare facilities to ensure its members of staff are certified, accredited and licensed.
In order for a facility to ensure that its members of staff are licensed or certified it should perform the following responsibilities: To begin with, the job seekers should be certified by a known government agency before employment. This is to prove that they are certified and thus have the required skills. The healthcare facility should also ensure the employed staff has licenses even before employment. This serves to prove that they have the required education training or skills and are thus able to perform the services of solving health problems for the patients. Therefore, before employing any member of staff in the hospital, licenses and certifications should be laid on the table.
The accrediting body for my proposed healthcare facility.
The accrediting body that will accredit my proposed healthcare facility of a hospital will be the Accreditation Commission for Health care. This organization of accreditation is mainly non-profit oriented and is situated in the US, (Tribe & Morrissey,2015). It is thus reachable to my hospital.
The Accreditation Commission for Health Care was founded in 1985 to provide accreditation to healthcare providers who were new in the market or were beginners. The first accreditation of this body has crowned a certification in 1987. It is thus evident that this body has a wide and long experience in accreditation. In 1996, thereafter, the body started accrediting healthcare facilities at the national level and thus expanded.
Since its establishment up to date, the organization offers accreditation in a vast number of programs such as home health, behavioral health, and pharmacy, to mention just a few. This services as mentioned are offered at national level thus the body is wide.
The services of this accreditation agency have helped a lot in ensuring that the quality of healthcare provided in the US is high and of standard due to its accreditation process. The accreditation process in this body is conducted in three years. In these years, the healthcare facility is exposed to vast information in healthcare. The facility is also able to learn the required ways to perform their services to clients. With this information learned the healthcare facility will, therefore, be competent and efficient.
