Good question! You're right, some people can pinpoint something traumatic in their past as the root cause of their disorder, but it's important to note that 1) having a traumatic event in the past does not necessarily mean one will suffer from a disorder in the future, 2) some people have no traumatic experiences and still suffer from a disorder. What leads to the development of a disorder is complex and includes things like their support structure, their personality, their genetics, etc.
