Problem Definition Worksheet
Problem statement.
The purpose of quitting smoking can be influential to my daily activities, health and the people around me. Understanding that there is no safe amount of cigarette smoke. I sometimes think that I don’t smoke entirely that much, but I do understand that when I smoke, the chemicals in tobacco reach my lungs quickly every time I inhale. My blood carries the toxins to every organ in my body, which is something I am not conscious of when I smoke. I try not to smoke around my daughter but every time I “light up” around her, I know it can increase her risk of developing ear infections, asthma, and shortness of breath. Growing up with my parents smoking and knowing that kids who grow up watching their parents smoke are also more likely to become smokers as teens, because this is how I started.
B. Business impact.
On an honest note, I assume that I smoke about 15-20 cigarettes a day given my stress levels throughout the day given that my job is inherently stressful. My smoke breaks at work are about an average of roughly six days of smoke breaks every year. According to the US Surgeon General, coughing and shortness of breath will decrease dramatically after 1-9 months of quitting smoking. Tiny hair-like structures that move mucus out of the lungs start to regain normal function in your lungs, increasing their ability to handle mucus, clean the lungs, and reduce the risk of infection. If I gave up smoking the chances of some of my close friends likely to quit smoking will increase about 43%. After quitting smoking in one year I could save $164.25 and after 10 years I could save $2,164.95 and this is based on the price of cigarettes that would increase annually by 6%.
C. Goals.
At the age of 34, the life expectancy for smokers is at least 10 years shorter than that of non-smokers. Quitting smoking before the age of 40 will reduce the risk of me dying from smoking-related disease by about 90%.
D. Project scope.
This process will be a 24 hours/7 days-a-week project. I typically smoke in the morning after I eat and or when I feel the most stressed out, 7:30 am before I go to work, around 12:00 pm after lunch, and around 6pm after I eat dinner are the most spot on times that are inherently in my brain that I know that I will smoke. These times are the most crucial for me because its usually done out of habit.
E. Team.
This will take the entire people who I surround myself with to accomplish this goal, but I have to make it known to my family, friends, and co-workers in order to gain there support.
F. Project plan.
