Part 1: Creative Retelling

Content : You need rewriting a traditional fairy tale “Snow White”

Demand: You have to adapt the fairy tale: “Snow White”, and the story has to be complete.

You need to change the plot of “Snow White”.

The only stipulation is that your creative retelling must be purposeful. You must have a goal in your retelling; what about your canonical fairy tale do you want to change and why ? For example, do you want to make Beauty and the Beast more feminist? Do you want to make Cinderella more relevant by turning her into a college student? Do you want to emphasize racial disparity by making Snow White black? Do you want to retell the fairy tale in a different genre (i.e. horror)? Your purpose/goal can take many forms, but you need to have something concrete you can point to, explain, and analyze in your critical process note (this is your “critical project”).

Length :it should be at least 600 words

Part 2: Critical Process Note

Content : This assignment will require you to explain the critical choices that you made during the process of composing your creative retelling. How and why did you select your fairy tale? What about the canonical fairy tale did you change or expand upon? How did your research affect your thinking about your fairy tale and how did it play into the creative decisions you’ve made in your own work? Basically, you will be explaining what your goals were in creating the adaptation and what your “project” was – what point or issue did you want to emphasize through your decisions in the adaptation process? You should quote from your story or describe your art as your main text to analyze.

Length :it should be at least 700 words

Format: Follow basic MLA format for citations. Include a Works Cited Page, also MLA format. Use double spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font, 1-inch margins, no extra spaces between paragraphs. Margin/punctuation trickery will not be tolerated.

Your Works Cited Page WILL NOT count towards your page length requirement.
