Chemistry
you are required to prepare a presentation for the class on a concept not covered, or not well covered, in class. The guidelines are as follows:
1) The presentation should last 15-20 minutes.
2) You may use any type of program to achieve this, but I would recommend that you prepare your presentation in Powerpoint, and using a microphone record narration over the background presentation. You may then save the presentation with narration as an mp4 file, although be advised this will take approximately 3 hours to convert.
3) The presentation should include a short introduction framing the topic, including any relevant history, approximately 10-15 minutes of explanation, as well as a brief 2-3 minute summary and/or focus on what the future of the area may hold.
4) you will need to write a 3 question quiz to accompany your presentation: This should reflect the topic of the presentation, as well as be answerable by the class after having seen your presentation.
5) The presentations will be evaluated using the following criteria (a rubric will be posted to help you effectively prepare your presentation): (50 points total)
a. Clarity of Presentation and Information (10 points)
b. Breadth of Chemistry/History Presented (15 points)
d. Organization of Slides (10 points)
e. Quiz Questions (10 points)
Potential Topics for Presentations:
Grubbs Catalysts/Olefin Metathesis for Sustainable Fuel Production Alternative Pesticides (Pheromones) Application of Real-time analysis for Pollution Prevention Base Metal Catalysis (Earth Abundant Rather than Precious Metal Catalysts) Suzuki Cross-Coupling Reaction
Transition Metal-Catalyzed Lignin/Biomass Conversion CO2 or Methane Conversion
