Hi our professor sent this yesterday. Please read and follow the requirements for the PowerPoints assignment.
1. Power Point Tips
Power Point Tips
As you create your PowerPoint - remember these guidelines:
Watch the amount of text on your slides. Remember the 5 x 5 rule....5 bullet points with 5 words to each bullet point. Too much text forces you to use a small font and your presentation will be difficult to read; and you will lose the attention of the audience. Only the highlights on the slides - all the details in the speaker's notes.
All slides require speaker's notes. There will be a loss of points if your presentation does not have speaker's notes. You will see this requirement in the rubric.
Remember to balance the text on your slides with some pics, clip art, graphics. A PPT is a visual learning tool - more than just a paper on slides. If you fill the slides with text and have no visuals and no speaker's notes - you have created a paper on slides. There is a great tutorial in the Student Success Center for those who need a refresher.
2. LOOM Narration for Your Power Point
Hi class,
Under your class resource tab you can find information related to LOOM. A Google search will also give you additional information.
Additionally, tech support at LOOM is awesome so if you are having difficulties they are happy to assist. You can Google LOOM and you will find information for tech support. You will have many PPTs in the program and most classes now require LOOM, so bite the bullet and get used to the platform. You will do great - I have faith in all of you!
For the LOOM narration for your Week 1 PowerPoint, you only need to provide audio narration, a video of you presenting is not necessary. The rationale for the audio narration is I will be able to review the presentation as if we were in a classroom together.
YOU ONLY NEED TO PROVIDE THE LINK TO YOUR LOOM NARRATION ON ONE OF YOUR SLIDES - I CAN ACCESS THE NARRATION FROM THE LINK. I need your actual Power Point submitted and the link to the LOOM narration.
If you try to submit the assignment with the LOOM narration attached to your PPT, the file will be too large and you will be emailing me that your file is too large; and I will be referring you back to this announcement :) Just add the link to a slide - or your title slide.
3. Choosing a Topic for Your Week 1 Power Point
Choosing a Topic for Your Week 1 Power Point
When you choose a topic for your Power Point, focus on a singular environmental hazard. We are thinking of elements in our environment that may pose a threat to the safety of our infants. think car seat safety, lead paint positioning, water safety, household chemicals, etc.
I would encourage you to refrain from subjects such as global air pollution. poverty, clean drinking water, childhood cancer. etc. Students are required to create a health promotion plan and an accident prevention plan for their chosen topic. It is difficult to meet these requirements when you choose a global subject that we may not have control over at the teaching level - which is what we are trying to do. Think of it as a presentation that you may make to parents at the local health department - with health promotion and accident prevention interventions that parents can implement.
Although the issue of unclean drinking water around the globe - it may be difficult at the community level for parents to effect a change there.
Using the tips above will make your creation of an accident prevention plan and a health promotion plan easier.
Thanks
