Allison’s Post:

In late adulthood, the main concern is ego integrity vs. despair (Wong, 2021). For counselors who work with this age group, it would be extremely rewarding to help someone revisit unsuccessful stages of developments to achieve ego integrity. Additionally for those who are open to change, they may be able to focus more on making necessary adjustments because of their increased free time due to retirement (Wong, 2021).

As far as challenges, connecting with clients in this age group can be taxing on a therapist because it is essentially preparing a person for the end of their life. Because counseling with older adults typically is terminated by death, it could be very emotionally hard to connect and loose so many clients (Wong, 2021). Additionally, many people in this age group who do not have identity integrity may be hardened, unwilling, or stubborn to change (Wong, 2021). It would be very difficult to change their ways after an entire life of doing things one way.

Some challenges that can arise in this developmental stage include managing retirement changes, financial stress, accepting one's life, dealing with regrets, mending relationships, continuing bodily decline, self reliance or lack of, and sociocultural events like covid (Wong, 2021). Because of the massive baby boomer generation entering late and older adulthood, the need for counselors who serve this population are essential. As they have to decide whether or not they can care for themselves, it can be a hard reality to face that they may require some assistance because of their mental r physical disabilities that come with aging. Especially for a generation that prized themselves on hard and consistent work to solely provide for their family, this could be a terrifying change.

In my immediate family, we have not had to deal with a lot of death. My parents grandparents passed away about 18 years ago, and it was not sudden. I was too young to understand it, and they did not share much of the expereince with me. My three sets of grandparents are still alive and live far away from us. My parents now are trying to help my grandparents by suggesting they move in with them to assist with aging. My other grandparents live in a retirement community and only come to visit once or twice a year. All of my grandparents text and call me with moderate frequency. In the past, I know that my grandmother's parents moved in with her when they were old, and she has considered moving in with her daughter. For the most part, the older people in our family remain very independent and are all more interested in traveling the country with their significant other than staying in one place near family.

LE EBONY’S POST:

I would do the right thing and tell my manager thank you but this idea that I have presented was from one of my employees and deserve this credit. I say this because you would want to take the credit of someone else most definitely not your employees because if they figure you will not give them credit for something and be loyal to them then why should they be loyal to you. If the promotion is for you, you are going to get it. It is not counted off one question it is about how you been working and what have you do before then to bring suggestions to the company. You should always give credit where credit is due. The way I see it is, think if you were in the employees’ position, how would you feel if your manager took your idea and say it was his or hers. You should tell your manager that you apologize for the errors that you have made and say you will try your best to not happen again because it was your responsibility to do the forecast and you gave one of your employees to do the job and you did not check the information to see if it was correct or not. So, no you do not tell her that your employee did the work for you so you will not get in any more trouble. Also, next time try to make time to complete the assignment your self instead of passing it one to the next person.

STEPHANIE’S POST:

Hi Classmates,

This questions all boils down to integrity. First, I would thank my manager for considering me for a promotion, then I would ask my manager was the promotion based off of this particular project, or my work overall, that would then determined, my next move, if the manager is basing it off of the current project, then I would have to be very forthcoming .  I do believe if I was placed in this situation I would definitely let my manager know that I had assistance on this project, and had I not had the assistance my sales forecast would've been all wrong and that I had plenty errors.  I would tell her that during my time of working on the sales forecast, I reached out to someone  on the team with more knowledge, that one of my sales reps gave me extra insight and assisted with completing the task. I would also mention that as happy as I am to accept the promotion, I would have to be honest and let my manager know that this sales forecast was a group effort and that I don't feel comfortable taking the credit for work that was completed in full by me. I would see if the sales rep that helped would also qualify for a promotion as well. If the promotion is based off of my overall performance/achievements within the company then I know it's well deserved. I wouldn't think I'd be getting a promotion based off of one project, I would like to think my overall performance would qualify me for the promotion.
