Social Media Platform Analysis

In this assignment, you will work with your network group to analyze three different social media platforms using the Seek > Sense > Share framework (Jarche 2020) . The Seek > Sense> Share framework is a way to think about the different functions of your PLN. You are going to use that framework to examine two different social media platforms of your group’s choosing to see what functions and features they have that would make them an effective tool to use to build and connect with your PLN.

The Assignment Format

Your assignment should be a Word document that includes;

· What are the three activities your team choose for each of the different Seek>Sense>Share categories and a brief explanation of why your team felt that those three were important activities in developing a PLN

· What three social media platforms you are analyzing.

· A final ranking of which of the three platforms you have analyzed that your network group feels would be the best platform to use to build your own Personal Learning Network and why, based on your team analysis of features and functions of that platform.

The Word document should include descriptive text to contextualize the bullet points above, and an explanatory chart that breaks down the tools, activities, and categories of the activity based on the chart below.

Activities

Instagram

Twitter

Wechat

Seek

Activity 1: View others’ ideas, and meet new people

Instagram allows users to view others’ pictures, and search for a specific topic such as shopping, comics, travelling etc. Instagram is more for personal use and entertainment.

Twitter allows users to search topics, make comments, and share ideas. Twitter can be used professionally compared with Instagram.

Wechat allows users to add people and send texts, voice messages, or video calls online at anytime. Wechat is for both personal and professional use.

Activity 2: Creating groups for PLN

Although Instagram supports group chats, functions are limited since users can only send information such as images. Also, people do not use Instagram for learning purposes which restricts the expansion of a PLN.

Users can have group chats. However the functions are limited Users can share twitters in the chat room, send emojis and text with a 140 words limitation.

Wechat supports group chat and users can upload files, pictures, videos under 25MB.

Activity 3: Daily Learning

Users can post images for followers and read posts for daily learning activity. However, the image form as a learning resource restricts the amount of information that users can deliver.

As long as a group chat is created, users can share twitters conveniently within the group, which is an efficient daily learning form.

Wechat users can chat freely and share links from other social medias in chats, which could be a great daily learning resource.

Sense

Activity 1: Filter the resources

Users can follow and unfollow various accounts based on the content posted. Users can like, repost or restore posts that attract them.

Hashtag, repost, like, dislike are functions to classify and filter the content in Twitter. Twitter is open social media so all users can participate in the discussion of topic.

Content posted on Wechat are your Wechat friends, users can identify the sources of the resource and verify it in a short time.

Activity 2 File or mark the resources

Becoming a regular follower to an account is a way to mark the resources. Besides, marking some certain posts is the process of sensing.

Repost, like, constant following to a hashtag or an account are ways to file the content going with your values.

Increase the knowledge of a person through his/her wechat photos, words or sharings. The information in this platform is very reliable because each account is built on real identification.

Activity 3 Document and explore the thoughts

IG is a photo hub, so the way to document the resources is saving the good/attracting ones in your phone or other electronic devices. DM is a good way to explore the ideas and communicate.

Verifying the authenticity of the information through comments and external hyperlinks. Twitter has a system to hide and limit the false news going viral.  Important information and valuable news can be saved by screenshots.

Through comment in “friends circle” or send a message to the person who posts the information to explore the idea. Multiple ways provided to document the thoughts such as add to your favorites.

Share

Activity 1: Who I share with?

Users can share photos only with the people who follow them. If they want to share a snap or clip with someone who doesn't follow them, the intended recipient will get an alert, which will pop up in a new inbox that has been added to the share screen in the upper right-hand corner, that a photo has been shared.

Twitter allows users to discover stories regarding today's biggest news and events, follow people or companies that post content they enjoy consuming, or simply communicate with friends. Additionally, PR teams and marketers can use Twitter to increase brand awareness and delight their audience.

WeChat not only allows you to chat with friends on a one-to-one basis, like ordinary instant messaging services but allows you to share content with friends, family, but also share with your contacts and group chats. People can share their location and chat with nearby residents.

Activity 2: What am I sharing?

Filtered photos, foodie pics, animal videos, family photos and pics of kids.

Blog stories, journal articles and news items that feature your research, thoughts on conferences you attend and interesting photographs. Replies to other people's tweets and retweets of other people's tweets.

Moments are a timeline of outstanding moments for all your contacts, whether they are photos of graduations, skydiving scenes or favourite tracks. Articles and official account content (such as quizzes) are also popular and shareable.

Activity 3: How to share it?

Instagram allows members to search for user accounts to follow or find user photos by searching hashtags or geotags. The Explore tab also presents curated content and recommendations based on the user's activity and accounts they follow, as well as trending hashtags and popular posts. The Activity tab displays recent engagement on posts in the form of likes and comments, and also recent activity from those the user is following.

Create your own tweets or retweet information that has been tweeted by others. Retweeting means that information can be shared quickly and efficiently with a large number of people. Using the hashtag symbol (#) before a relevant keyword or phrase in their Tweet to categorize those Tweets and help them show more easily in Twitter search.

Wechat moment is known as “Friends' circle”, which means users can share and get access to accepted WeChat friends' information, creating an intimate and private communicating circle within the users' choice of close friends. Moments mainly focuses on sharing pictures with captions, while sharing statuses and sharing websites are also permitted.

Your Word document should be a maximum of three pages: two pages of single-spaced narrative and a one-page chart based on the table above. While I am not hugely insistent on academic formatting for papers, I do ask that your paper be clear and well organized and that references are formatted in APA style and included on a separate page. This separate page does not count as part of the three-page limit.
