10 min speech
Preliminary Speech Plan
· What is my final topic for my speech?
Since technology is expanding, one of the new things that is being introduced is onsite video visits while visiting inmates, which ends up costing the families of loved ones more money and takes away their right to see their loved one who is incarcerated in person.
· Please provide the link to the news article you plan to base your speech off of.

· What are your main points for the Monroe’s Motivated Sequence? (Please be sure to list which step for which main point. You should have five main points listed here. See the speech requirements for more information. )
· How many of you have a family member or loved one who is incarcerated or do you know someone who knows someone incarcerated? If you are unaware of the prison system, for a family member to receive three- fifteen minute phone calls a day from their loved one is costs approximately $450 dollars a month just in phone calls. On top of that everytime you decide to add money to the phone there is a $3 fee.You know have to also pay for onsite video visits, so you go to the jail pay for parking and go through all the metal detectors to then sit down and do a video visit that costs at minimal $15 for a 30 minute visit where you are not even allowed to see your loved on in person.
· You spend so much money on phone calls and video visits. That also doesn’t count commissary ( money you send the inmate so he is allowed to buy toiletries and food)
· We should be able to pay a small fee each month to be able to talk to inmates or video chat them, instead of having to pay by the minute for all the above. Visits in person should be free to see them like they have always been and we should not take away in-person visits for only on video visits.
· If they were to cut the costs on these things then I believe we will be able to see and have more phone calls with our inmates and it wouldn’t be such a stress on our everyday life trying to provide for our family
· You can help me in this specific action! We could all write a letter to our county jail or state prison explaining how horrible it is to move forward with onsite video visits and taking away our ability to see the incarcerated at all.

What do you know about your audience and how they will react to this speech?
I know my audience is fellow students, I do not know how they will react to this speech, I believe it is educational and everyone can see how much of a burden making these charges are on families. As for my personal audience who I am going to have record me, one of them has a lover who is incarcerated but still gets in person visit with them and the other has also had family in and out of the prison system like me so I believe they will be able to relate.
