Mary Jane Jones – Phase Two – Life Communications Project – Org, Behavior

PART 1 Shaper—72.7, Doer—67.7, Producer—62.6, Influencer—42.4, Contemplator—41.9,

Responder—41.4, Mover—37.4, Intensity Score—83.45

PART 2 I really enjoyed reading about my primary language, Shaper. It reiterated several things I

already knew, and gave me ease with recent decisions I have made. My major desire is to lead, and my

overall intensity level is high. Having a high intensity level means I have a high drive to communicate.

I recently wrote about quitting a job, because of lack of communication. There have been a time or two

that I have questioned the fact that I just quit a job, but after reading about my personality and needs, I

know I did what was best for me. As a Shaper, I am very goal oriented, a well organized planner, and

use my time efficiently. My profile says that I may need to develop sensitivity to others, and that I tend

to be private about my emotions. This can cause others to feel closed out of my life. It is true, I think I

get so focused on my goals and go into action, then I don’t understand why others close to me don’t “get

it”. I may ask someone to do something once, and then they either do it or I just do it myself. Otherwise

I see myself as a “nagger” rather than a Doer. The combination of being a high Shaper and Doer has

explained so much about myself. It is truly my motto, that of a high Doer, “If it needs to be done, just do

it”. I need support and agreement from others, as well as appreciation. I don’t mind doing all that I do,

but take it personally when it goes unrecognized. After reading my profile, I have been reminded that I

have a difficult time relaxing and just taking it easy. I need to appreciate the people in my life that have

that as a high characteristic, and learn from them. Although I could never take that trait to the extreme, it

would be nice from time to time. In the past, I have resented people that are not as serious and goal

oriented as me, but I need to realize everyone is different, and that other peoples strongest traits have

page 2

a positive side to them as well.

PART 3: A) Intensity Level: My overall intensity level is high (83.45). This means that I will fight to

the end for what I believe is right. I have learned that my intensity level drives me to communicate, and

that not all people have the ability to communicate as I do. I need to find a way to encourage people

around me to openly share in conversations that are of importance to me. B) Major Desire: My major

desire is to lead, and it truly comes natural and is a gift. I have always been an excellent leader and

motivator at work. It is interesting however, that I can and do lead at work, with my children, and with

certain close people to me, but I have a difficult time leading an intimate partner. I want an intimate

partner to be an equal, and I don’t want to be a “nagger”. C) Filter: My filter is, “What is your plan

and are you working your plan?” As a high Shaper and Doer, I am goal oriented and always have a plan,

therefore I expect the same from others. I have been told so many times, “WOW, you have a plan for

everything”. D) Need From Others: My primary need from others is support and agreement. This

explains why I have such an awesome relationship with my mother, sister, brother-in-law, and

boyfriend. They know I am a strong willed person and “push” myself, and in return honestly support

the decisions I make in my daily life. E) Personal Success Trait: I need to be more aware of my

sensitivity to others. I expect a lot of myself, and therefore expect a lot from others. As a person who

stays busy, I don’t allow myself a lot of time for depressing matters, and therefore may be insensitive

to others needs. F) Personal Success Habit: As a high Shaper, I need to learn to relax, reflect, and

relate. I am glad to read this, and remind myself of this importance. This is a huge weakness of mine.

My boyfriend has perfected the ability to relax, which often upsets me. I hope that this is an underlying

reason that I have been drawn to him. Perhaps subconsciously, I am hoping to be taught the ability to

relax, reflect, and relate more. It will be a great feat for me, to learn to appreciate his natural ability in

page 3

this area. I would like to study more on how to maximize a relationship when dealing with different

traits, such as this one. Up too this point, I have had times of resentment, from his lack of drive like

mine. G) Susceptibility to Stress: According to my life languages profile, my susceptibility to stress is

low. This means that I do not blame others, and accept responsibility for my own actions. This is very

true to my daily life. There have been many difficult and stressful times in my life like divorce after

twenty years of marriage, custody issues, and others. People close to me have asked me, “how do I

handle the stress?” I have never really had an answer for them, but just knew it was an innate trait I

am lucky enough to have. H) Interactive Style: My interactive style is Extrovert. This means I am an

outgoing person, and enjoy being around others. I have the confidence to speak in public and in groups.

This trait explains why I often leave the house, just to “get out”. Although I am goal oriented and a

self motivator, I am also energized by others, and enjoy interaction and conversation. I) Learning

Preference: I like to see things as I learn. I think in pictures and learn visually. I would much rather be

taught in a hands on environment. J) Internal Control: My internal control is described as moderate.

This means I have a balance between responsibility and discipline versus spontaneity and impulsiveness.

This definitely accurately describes me. Although I do not “relax” often, I have my “spurts” when I will

put all work aside, and spontaneously go have some fun. I do believe in rewarding myself, whether with

free time to do things I enjoy, or with a new outfit.

PART 4:

The Mover Language:

Team Member) As a mover, individuals are action-oriented. A team member that has high mover traits

can be useful since they are honest and truthful. I would appreciate having someone on my team that

page 4

uses those qualities. As a team member, they will also have high energy, that will probably encourage

others on the team.

Leader) A great leader, is a visionary. This is a trait of a mover. Movers can be assertive and set high

standards. This is important for a leader to do. When leaders expect more from their employees, the

employees usually feel more gratified.

Motivator) Movers are results oriented. This can be a great motivator, for individuals. By rewarding

yourself and others, once a task is accomplished, it is more likely that future results will be positive.

The Doer Language:

Team Member) Doers are dedicated and Finishers. It is important, as a team member to be dedicated

To the team and cause. It is equally important to want to finish the task.

Leader) Doers are responsible and organized. As a leader, you would responsibly hand out tasks. You

Would also provide organization within the company.

Motivator) Doers are hands on type of people. This can be a great motivator, because many people

don’t want to work for someone who has never done the job themselves. Doers are also practical, which

means they probably understand the work/life conflict. This is a huge motivator for employees that have

that need for work/life balance.

The Influencer Language:

Team Member) Influencers have the ability to be creative and enthusiastic. As a team member, they

can bring creative ideas to the table, that others may not be willing to express. As an enthusiastic team

member, they will encourage the rest of the team to stay involved.

Leader) Influencers are diplomatic and intuitive. As a leader, it is important to be fair, especially when

Page 5

dealing with complaints. As a leader with intuition, I could see when employees are unhappy, and

possibly deal with the matter before it got out of control.

Motivator) Influencers are described as fun and outgoing. As a motivator, this skill could be used by

rewarding tasks at work. Motivators often “lighten” the atmosphere at work, which makes employees

feel more comfortable.

The Responder Language:

Team Member) Responders have the qualities of being peacemakers and sensitive. As a team member,

It would be important to be sensitive to others ideas. It would also be helpful to have a peacemaker on

the team, to mediate differences within the group.

Leader) Responders are responsive and attentive. As a leader, it is important to respond to employee

issues in a timely manner. Leaders that are attentive often keep problematic issues from becoming worse

than necessary.

Motivator) Responders are often passionate and joyful. Passionate people can motivate by inspiring

others. A joyful person is able to motivate others by not focusing on negatives.

The Shaper Language:

Team Member) Shapers are determined and focused. As a team member, a shaper will help the team

complete the task to the end. They will help the team focus on the task at hand, and not get sidetracked.

Leader) Shapers can be natural leaders and are able to delegate with ease. It is important for leaders to

hand out tasks and responsibilities, rather than try and do it all themselves. Natural leaders make

employees feel comfortable.

Motivator) Most shapers are successful. This can be a great motivator. By telling your story of where

Page 6

you have been in life and what you have accomplished, others will be inspired and motivated.

Successful people can also motivate others by sharing their wealth.

The producer Language:

Team Member) Producers can be punctual and well-rounded. As a team member, it is important to not

let your team down, by being on time. A well rounded person is of utmost importance for a team

member, because when working in teams you will be subject to many cultures.

Leader) Most producers are responsible and thoughtful. As a leader, I would be responsible enough to

understand peoples differences. I would also be thoughtful enough to reward certain tasks.

Motivator) Producers can be gracious and grateful. I could motivate people by expressing gratitude for

their hard work. I could also motivate others by being gracious, and understanding their needs.

The Contemplator Language:

Team Member) Contemplators can be calm and secure. As a team member, I would remain calm

during conflicts within the team. Having a team member that is secure in his/her own ideas will allow

the team to be more resourceful.

Leader) Contemplators have the trait of self control and being detailed oriented. It is important for a

leader to utilize self control when dealing with an irate employee. When leaders are detail oriented,

everyone knows what is expected of them.

Motivator) Contemplators can be intellectually brilliant and loyal. By using brilliance, I could motivate

people in creative ways. A loyal person motivates others through honesty and integrity.

IN CONCLUTION: I was accurately described by my Life Languages. As a high Shaper, 95% of my

work history has been in a management/leadership role. Everything I have read about a high Shaper,

page 7

from susceptibility to stress, to my interactive style, has described me to a tee. I have learned that since

I am familiar and aware of my own life languages, I must learn how to read others life languages, and

appreciate them for their qualities. I look forward to reading the information I learned on this project

over and over in the future, and hope it will help me with many of my personal and professional

relationships. Thank you for allowing us to learn this information. It really will give me more insight

and a competitive advantage in the workplace, because it will help me to understand myself and others

better.
