Description: Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Where we love is home - home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts.” For many of you this is your first time away from home, and no matter if you have moved to ASU from another country or just from the other side of town at one point or another you will most likely experience homesickness. This paper is your chance to express what home means to you. Is it a place? A person? A feeling? A really comfortable chair? To help focus your Personal Narrative describe at least one specific instance or event that helped you form your opinion of what a home consists of for you. The experience can be common, beautiful, emotional, intense, tragic, or even humorous. Some things you might want to consider including in your narrative:
· How your family has shaped you into the person you are today
· How growing up in the community you did influenced you
· How being a member of a certain group/team/club affected you
· Rural vs country living
After giving your topic consideration, decide what insight that you would like to communicate to others. As you write and revise, identify a focus--a specific point you would like to make--and work to communicate that point to the Arkansas State University first-year community: students and faculty with diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and interests.
