Going Back to School
The modern world has several adults who are pursuing education for various reasons that include getting a sense of accomplishment, job security, and for career advancement. Also, the contemporary workplace has also become very competitive and one acquiring a degree is one of the ways that one can stay ahead of the thousands of qualified individuals competing for jobs. I decided to go back to school for self-fulfillment, to advance my career and have a better pay, due to the availability of online classes, act as a role model to my children and set their education standards and getting a degree would help to get a better job and well-paying job and rise to management levels.
Since my childhood, I have had a dream of achieving the highest possible level of education, as I am a person who loves learning. However, some circumstances in my life delayed my goal, but I have never lost hope. I have always taken advantage of opportunities to learn at home, at work or at school and hope that one day, I would enroll in university to gain more knowledge in my career. I feel that increasing education is essential for both career advancement and for living a good life. I decided to go back to school to fulfill this dream. The day I will graduate, I will mark it as a point of self-fulfillment in reaching a desired level of education.
I have noted that in the modern world, several graduates are joining the workforce, making the working environment more competitive than before. Due to the increase in many people graduating, the employees are now seeking to employ people with university degrees and encouraging their employees to go back to school and advance their education. These two reasons explain the increase in the number of people who are working and learning simultaneously. I decided to go back to school so that I improve my credentials and be able to compete with the other fresh graduates. The competitive world requires continuous upgrading of skills and getting a university degree was one of the ways I would upgrade my skills. I have seen many people lose their jobs, which created the fear of losing my job and failing to secure another. I felt that going back to school was a better way of dealing with the fear. In light of this, I decided to go back to school to improve my chances of getting a better paying job, advance my career and rise to managerial levels. I have realized that most of the well-paying jobs and managerial ask for university degrees and in believe that obtaining one would increase my chances of landing one of such prime jobs.
I have gained experience in my career, but due to the competitive state, the experience would not provide any job security. I decided to go back to school as a way of keeping my job and avoid early retirement that may arise as many companies start laying off workers due to the hard-economic times. I went back to school because I felt that even if I lost my job at my current workplace, have a degree and experience would help me secure a position at another place and avoid early retirement.
I decided to back to school because it is now easy to undertake a degree course using online classes while working. This approach to attaining a degree is flexible, it does not require my physical presence at the university, and I can comfortably study and do all the assignments after work and during weekends from home.
Lastly, like many parents, I decided to go back to school to set an example and act as a role model to my children and siblings. I have of the perspective that since I had the opportunity to go back to school, it would be easy for me to encourage my children to advance their education in future after achieving the same education level. Going back to school will be an excellent way to prove to them the importance of education and motivate them to follow my educational path.
The benefits getting a degree will have in my life are increasing the potential to earn a higher salary which will improve my standards of living and that of my family, offer job security and increase my potential to advance to managerial positions, strengthen my job satisfaction, and protects me from the risk of early retirement. However, I am aware that these benefits will not occur automatically, and I will need to continue improving my skills and acquire more knowledge. After completing my degree, I will also advance to achieve masters and doctorate degrees.
