Factors That Contribute to a Creative Climate Specific to Both Individuals and Teams

Several factors have been identified to contribute to creative climate. The following have been specifically identified to contribute to individual creativity

1. Psychological safety. Creativity cannot propagate without psychological safety.  This is what helps individuals to take risks that lead to breakthrough inventions and solutions to complex problems.

2. Environment of respect and trust. This provides the sphere for creative doodling.

3. Inclusion. This is the sustained, purposeful organizational culture that encourages different viewpoints in which everyone feels accepted and contributes fully.  It creates a citadel of innovation and creativity

4. Encouraging authenticity and dialogue.

5. Respectful of personal lives.  This helps generate the comfort feeling needed for innovation and creativity.

Factors that contribute to Team creativity are

1. Periodic refresh of purpose as conditions and requirements change steers team in the right direction and promote uptick in creativity.

2. Diverse mix of geography, nationalities, ethnicities, genders and functions. . Diversity has been demonstrated to provide the essential trigger that leads to breakthrough thinking and provides greater career visibility for diverse talent (Derven, 2016).

3. Direct access to shared technology. This will increase team creativity

4. The work environment. Intentionally make it safe for all to cocreate.

5. Flexibility is the underpinning of team innovation. Do away with rigid rules and let the minds clash.

6.  Open exchange of information and ideas

Factors That Supported Creativity of Employees and Teams

The blending of good leadership and a work environment that supports everyone’s imagination were distinct factors that supported creativity of employees and teams. This was previously observed by Pucciuo, Mance and Murdock (2011) that found that good physical workspace and stable psychological state promotes innovation. Other factors.

1. Flexibility. Do what you like in the domain of gyration.

1. Free and open exchange of ideas.  No loner mentality. It is also called group anointing.

1. Constant encouragement / coaching by leadership.

Initiative That Could Strengthen Climate of Creativity

Though this calls for an initiative, I can actually identify several for the benefit of this learning environment.

1. Eliminate Rules and procedures that hinder freelancing. Freedom is the seed of innovation. When people have freedom to think and operate independently, they can engage in creative thinking

2. Right to select projects of most interest in the domain of interest

3. Okay to fail but keep innovating

Factors That Contribute to a Creative Climate Specific to Both Individuals and Teams

At my current place of employment, the work culture is incredibly supportive of creativity. We are able to openly discuss ideas and come up with possible solutions to problems that may present themselves. We are autonomous and encouraged to “use your judgment” in any situation. The work culture is humorous and the team has fun with each other. We regularly play jokes on each other and tell jokes and stories that lighten the mood and gives us energy. This is helpful when coming up with solutions to problems as a team and encourages collaboration. Being autonomous and allows to use our judgment in situations helps our individual employees to implement their solutions independently.

Factors That Supported Creativity of Employees and Teams

The factors that I find most support the creativity of individuals and teams are the ability to have fun and fun being encouraged, allowed to be autonomous and not always having to contact management prior to making decisions, open communication, and having a supportive manager and medical director that are open to new ideas and help with creative ways to solve problems. These are the factors that I experience every day at work and have always been supported when making decisions and implementing ideas (Puccio et al, 2011).

Initiative That Could Strengthen Climate of Creativity

I do not believe that there is a 100% perfect company and most can improve in an area or two. My company could improve creativity and innovation by having increased transparency with the corporate office and each facility having more independence from the corporate office. This would help in individual facilities to make the best decisions for their office location and allow the on site employees to implement their teams creative solutions. An office in Texas and not thrive with ideas created for an office in New York. I think that freeing up the “going by the book” mentality would allow for offices to work in the same manner, only with a few tweaks.
