How to install a mailbox post

These instructions will help you learn how to install a mailbox post. This instruction manual will be detailed enough that anyone will be able to have a newly installed mailbox post in their front

yard after they have thoroughly read and followed these steps below. Make sure you have a shovel to help dig the hole and place the post in concrete to stabilize the post on the curb.

Depending on your skill level this can take 2 to 4 hours to complete. Make sure you are on a safe location on the side of your curb, not to close to the road. And in compliance with federal guidelines.

Materials:

o Mailbox post o Shovel o Tape measure

o Post hole digger o Ready mix concrete

o Support beams o Level o Screwdriver

o Tape

Step 1:

Tape an X on the ground that is 6” to 8” back from the curb. This is where the post will be placed.

Step 2:

Measure the mailbox post to obtain the depth needed for the hole. See figure 1. The post cannot be buried no deeper than 24”

underground. Make sure the mailbox is positioned 41” to 45” above ground.

(Organization) Step 3:

Use the shovel to start digging the hole. Once you have gotten about 6” deep, switch

to the post hole digger, to better remove the dirt. Keep digging until you have got the desired depth.

Step 4:

Place the mailbox post into the hole.

Step 5:

Use support beams to maintain a steady position of the mailbox post around the

outside of the hole.

Step 6:

Measure the mailbox post with the measuring tape to verify it is positioned 41”

to 45” above ground. Use the level to ensure the mailbox post is straight.

Step 7: Mix a bag of concrete per the

manufacturer’s instructions. Pour the mixed concrete in the hole around the post. Do not

fill the hole completely. See figure 2.

Step 8:

Use the level to ensure the mailbox post did

not shift. If it did adjust the post, so it is in a straight position.

Step 9:

Let the concrete dry, this is based on the

type of concrete used. Check the label on the concrete for this time length.

Step 10:

Once you have ensured the concrete is completely dry, remove the support beams

from the mailbox post.

Step 11:

Mount the mailbox to the post. Follow

instructions provided with mailbox to install onto the post properly based on the type of

mailbox purchased. Step 12:

Use the level to ensure the mailbox is still leveled.

Step 13:

Finally, place the street address numbers on

the mailbox. If desired completely fill the hole up with soil, covering the concrete.
