Article 1: Arquilla, J. (2012). Cyberwar Is Already upon Us. Rational Security. FP. From: http://foreignpolicy.com/2012/02/27/cyberwar-is-already-upon-us/

This first article focuses on one of the newest forms of wars that government is fighting today with allies and enemies all across the globe and that is cyber war. Cyber today has become very robust. The main strength of this article is the fact that it is very comprehensive in discussing the topic and in the manner which it illustrates its thesis that cyberwar is here with us. The author of this article seems to be highly conversant with this topic as he provides a lot of insight into the topic and the manner in which cyber war is being handled by the government today. The author provides relevant example alongside information which helps the audience to understand and relate to what the author is talking about, and this makes the article highly informative and insightful. However, the article’s main shortcoming is the fact that information is provided in technical terms which have not been elaborated. For a reader with no deep knowledge, it can be hard to understand the article. The language used is a little more complex and not easily understandable. Comment by Darrell Dantzler: Nice discussion below

The strongest point that is made by this article is the fact that strategic cyber which has greatly been embraced today is not an appropriate approach to winning the war. As the author suggests, launching disruptive attacks is not the right strategy for breaking the will of individuals determined to launch an attack. This is true because this is a strategy that can have so many loopholes. For example, the government does not always have full information on the plans of enemies or cannot predict what they are planning. With such uncertainty, it is impossible to launch any sabotage. The least persuasive claim that has been made by the author is the fact that the military in the country has become highly vulnerable simply because the article does not provide any evidence to support this claim. Owing to the fact that the article has established that strategic cyber war which I characterize by disruptive attacks is not the way to win this war, then, what best approach can the country adopt to win a cyber war? Comment by Darrell Dantzler: You must cite as often as possible. You cited some facts, but there is no citation. A citation is warranted to show where these facts derived.

Only double space

Article 2: Erik M. (2012). Cyber 3.0: The Department of Defence strategy for operating in cyberspace and the attribution problem . Air Force Law Review. From: https://www.thefreelibrary.com/_/print/PrintArticle.aspx?id=297309173 Comment by Darrell Dantzler: Capitalize major words in the headings. See APA paper template.

This second article focuses on cyber 3.0 strategy which was developed in the united states to enhance the country’ s level of resilience and survivability to cyber-attacks. The article provides a very comprehensive summary of what the cyber 3.0 strategies is all about. The biggest strength of this article is its level of practicability. The article does not only talk about the problem of cyber-attack and its intensity but rather the article goes on ahead to provide insight into how each of these areas of concern and weakness can be addressed in a manner that is more practical. For example, the article does not only talk about the fact that the government should be prepared but it goes ahead to give ways in hic the government should prepare. Further, the article is highly analytical since it looks at the issue of cyber-attacks from all dimensional. That is from the legal, technological, political, social and also economic dimensions. By giving such a holistic picture of the problem, it creates better understanding and better chances to develop effective solutions. It is not possible to identify a weakness from this article as it is able to present this issue holistically and in a simplified and practical manner. Comment by Darrell Dantzler: You must cite as often as possible. You cited some facts, but there is no citation. A citation is warranted to show where these facts derived. Comment by Darrell Dantzler: You must cite as often as possible. You cited some facts, but there is no citation. A citation is warranted to show where these facts derived.

The most persuasive point that the article makes is the fact that preparedness is key. This means that the government needs ensure proper surveillance of the cyberspace and ensure all needed resources in terms of skilled personnel; relevant technology, relevant strategies and policies and also cyber resource are always available. Preparedness also means mindfulness of cyberspaces to ensure that no loopholes are left for cybercriminals to take advantage of. The least persuasive argument made is the long argument about attribution. The article seems to point out that identifying the source of an attack is the most important part of this war and should come first. Comment by Darrell Dantzler: great

This can be debated by the fact that detecting an attack or vulnerability and preventing an attack from happening needs to come first before investigating the source and identifying the attackers. This is because the range of sources can be too many that the personnel loses time finding sources other than first ensuring security. While the article emphasizes on the role of IT personnel, the military and the government officials in the prevention of cyber-attacks, what role needs to be played by civilians in to help in prevention. Comment by Darrell Dantzler: nice dicussion

Article 3: Ahmad, R. & Yunos, Z. (2012). The Application of Mixed Method in Developing a Cyber Terrorism Framework. Center for Advanced Computing Technology, Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Melaka, Malaysia. Vol.3 No.3 (2012), Article ID: 21342, 6 pages DOI:10.4236/jis.2012.33026. From: http://file.scirp.org/Html/5-7800087_21342.htm

The third article focuses on the use of mixed method approach in developing a framework which can be applied in fighting cyber terrorism. While this article provides a lot of insight into the mixed method approach of research as strength, the article also fails in the fact that it gives generalized information in regard to this research approach and fails to explain how it can specifically be applied into cyber terrorism research. This is a big weakness because the method generally speaking seems so simplified and the article does not explain how well it can be fit into the complex matter of cyber-attack. Comment by Darrell Dantzler: You must cite as often as possible. You cited some facts, but there is no citation. A citation is warranted to show where these facts derived.

The most compelling point that is made by this article is the fact that there is need to make use of both qualitative and quantitative data to solve problems. This is because making use of these two methods as the article suggests, helps to not only generate theories but also helps to verify them. No compelling argument has been made in regard to the main topic of cyber terrorism as the article focuses on mixed method approach and rarely mentions its relation to cyber terrorism. In light of the methodology explained in the article, how can this research approach be incorporated into the complex matter of cyber terrorism? Comment by Darrell Dantzler: great

Part 2

Has U.S. federal government developed a robust legal, regulatory and policy framework to address cyber security challeng es? Why? Why not? Comment by Darrell Dantzler: Shorten heading to a phrase and capitalize major words in the headings. See APA paper template.

The policy framework by the federal government has gone through some changes over the years to ensure effectiveness in fighting cyber-crimes which is highly commendable. The framework is robust because it is comprehensive and it has been formulated in consideration of the complete picture of the issue. With proper implementation, it can go a long way in enhancing cyber security. Comment by Darrell Dantzler: More In-depth Discussion is Warranted and More In-Depth Application is Warranted. This discussion is not comprehensive. Demonstrate you understand concepts by applying them to research, personal experiences, past incidents, or any other relevant topics Use examples, draw conclusions, compare and contrast, make judgments, or synthesize materials.

Research or Policy Question for Further Research Comment by Darrell Dantzler: Include research question

Conclusion Comment by Darrell Dantzler: Include conclusion

Conclusions wrap up what you have been discussing in your paper. After moving from general to specific information in the introduction and body paragraphs, your conclusion should begin pulling back into more general information that restates the main points of your argument. Conclusions may also call for action or overview future possible research. The following outline may help you conclude your paper:

In a general way,

· Restate your topic and why it is important,

· Restate your thesis/claim,

· Address opposing viewpoints and explain why readers should align with your position,

Call for action or overview future research possibilities.
