Argument analysis

This is an argument analysis paper!

Topic: Mother Tongue by Amy Tan

Word count: 1300

Note: This is a guideline given to me by my professor and should follow this properly and I hope

it helps for you! The topic is simple just be precise with the instructions below.

Paper Format:

1. Introduction: Here we will be writing author’s thesis and thesis of your own, audience,

ethical problem, main argument about ethical problems. You can use I argue, I contend, I

confirm, I believe. You can argue if the writer was able to prove his main argument. You

can choose to say he did, or he was not able to but must have reason to prove it or the

things that you did not liked or was not convincing. And if there was any please quote it

from the topic and say why was it not convincing! Please focus on ethical problems and

arguments.

(Note here are some notes that I took in class which might be helpful.)

Ethical problems like representation in certain fields, respect for Asian-American

(nonnative speakers), different forms of literacy, arguing the importance of traditionally

spoken language.

Thesis like peers/family effect

Audience like native English speakers, mom, fiction writers, non-fiction.

*Most important thing is finding a counter argument, secondary argument, write if it is

effective or ineffective, annotation, look up for familiar terms, determine purpose. Here

2. Body: Here write about pieces of evidence, rhetorical strategies, pick some quotes,

examples, assumptions.

(Note: please write clearly about the rhetorical strategies used but don’t just mention them but in

fact relate to the argument)

5. Conclusion: In conclusion, don’t repeat the same thing as written in introduction relate it

but in a different way.
