Yes, business ethics is an important social issue and business environmental issue. Today’s consumers and regulatory stewards are holding companies accountable in their pursuit of profits should they engage in unethical practices that adversely affect the individual and society as a hold. Social media and the internet have played a large part in how companies present themselves publically and are being judged as to whether their product or service makes a positive contribution to society. Purdue Pharma, the maker of OxyContin, engaged in unethical practices to pursue company profits to the detriment of 1000s of lives being lost. The company is being held accountable, but unfortunately, it looks like no board members will face criminal charges. Until more board members are held criminally liable, companies formed under the protection of the corporation business formation rules will continue unfortunately to engage in unethical practices
