Re:Topic 10 DQ 1
The journal I chose as appropriate to disseminate my research is the Journal of Addictions Nursing: A Journal for the Prevention and Management of Addiction. This journal is a good option for my new knowledge because nobody is immune to addiction. While not all nurses divert for thier personal use, many of them do. In perusing the journal's website, I found a call for papers on a special topic of the opioid epidemic. Editors will accept case studies, literature reviews, and original research on several opioid epidemic topics, including opioid use and addictions among healthcare providers.
A nursing conference that would be the best option for presenting my new knowledge is the Nursing Leadership and Management Conference in Birmingham in November. The conference "is a forum to explore issues of mutual concern as well as exchnage knowledge, share evidence, ideas, and generate solutions" (Nursing Leadership, 2018, para. 5). I would be able to offer a solution to diversion, as well as present the evidence that supports it. Nurse managers need to have an awareness, and help develop policies and procedures.
It is important to present research for several reasons. According to the APA, reasons include learning about advancecs, and contributing to them; advocacy; making contacts; and learning how to present (Dunn, 2007). As many of us mentioned in our posts last week, we get nervous when presenting and we need to practice. The only way to practice is to get out there and do it.
