Reflection:
The videos were quite informative regarding the issues of deviance and violence in sports. We must agree that there is a lot of violence being witnessed in sports. There is almost zero chance that one would attend a match and not experience some sort of verbal or even physical violence. There are several parties to be blamed for this. First, Parents are playing an active role in encouraging violence and deviance in sports. When they go to watch their children play, parents get violent while their kids watch and even encourage their kids to go violent with their opponents.
There have been instances where parents exchange blows or hurl abuses at each other all in the name of supporting their kids. Some parents even go to the extent of threatening their kids and the child is left with no option but to get violent. Let us not forget that these kids are the same people who will be playing in adult leagues in the future and they carry this violence with them. The management of the various leagues is also to blame for deviance and violence in sports. The issue of violence in sports is not handled with the seriousness it deserves.
There have been cases where players assault other players in full view of the crowd and the world but no tough action is taken against that player. Players also use abusive and racist language on the pitch but nobody cares to take action. The last party to blame for deviance and violence in sports is society. We are living in a society that is fascinated by violence and this is quite unfortunate. We are proud of players who attack other players and are always quick to justify these players' actions. To some of us, a match is not interesting if it ends without some sort of violence having been witnessed.
A lot needs to be done to eradicate deviance and violence in sports. Since this problem is quite deep-rooted, it will surely take some time to completely get rid of these vices. The league's managements need to be more vigilant and serious about violence. No form of violence whatsoever should be tolerated. Parents need to learn to distance themselves from situations that may result in violence. They need to do what is best for their kids because the game is about the kids, not the parents. As a society, we need to reconsider our morality and set our priorities right to support the right things.
