Leadership Assignment (15%)

Career and Leadership Development

“A boss creates fear, a leader confidence. A boss fixes blame, a leader corrects mistakes. A boss knows all, a leader asks questions. A boss makes work drudgery, a leader makes it interesting. A boss is interested in himself or herself, a leader is interested in the group.”

– Russell H. Ewing

Even though you are not the boss or a manager in your Work Integrated Learning environment, you are still a leader at Centennial as long as you are involved and engaged. Using the content from this week (i.e., lecture material, mandatory readings), respond to the above quote in a reflective manner. You may find the quote to be fully true, partially true, or not true at all.

In your reflective response, think about your experiences at your Work Integrated Learning environment to date and recognize the roles and perceptions of your WIL Supervisor. What type of leader is he or she? Do you ever work alongside your WIL Supervisor as a leader? If yes, what type of leader are you? In the future, what type of leader would you like to become?

When typing up your reflective response, remember to consider the following three statements:

· Leaders are conscious of how their emotions and behavior impact others.

· Leaders actively manage the tension between staying positive and facing reality.

· Leaders remain engaged, by focusing on the future and accepting responsibility to be the difference you want to see in others.

(10 marks)

Assignment Instructions: Your reflective response to the quote must be 1-2 pages,

double spaced, and in Arial font size 12. The assignment is to be submitted to its corresponding Assignment Folder (Dropbox) on our course page.
