OTHELLO PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

You will be required to complete a project associated with our study of William Shakespeare’s Othello. Your project must feature at least one of the major themes found in the play and give a modern perspective. The project will be worth 150 points and will demonstrate your understanding of the theme and the lessons it teaches us. Whichever project you choose, you will be required to present it to the class. You may work in small groups of up to four persons on these projects. It must be apparent that each of you contributed equally to the finished project. You may demonstrate your understanding by choosing one of several project types, all of which will be evaluated on the following rubric:

The projects will be presented to the class beginning May 20, 2021. Each presentation must be between 10 and 15 minutes. Make sure your group is ready on the day your group is called to present. There will be no excuse for a group because a member is absent who has all your material, which should be stored so that other students in your group may access it. If necessary, make duplicate copies so that any member of your group may present. Ideally, all members will participate in the presentation. If a group fails to complete or present a project, every member of that group will receive a “zero,” which will adversely affect each group member’s grade. If you are having trouble with a group member not participating, let me know well in advance so that I can take corrective action. Do not wait until the day of your presentation to tell me about this.

Preapproved Project Ideas:

You may choose from one of the following projects. Without exception, all projects must be computer-generated and electronically presented to the class. If you have drawings that must be included into the project, you may scan them into the computer as jpegs, tiffs, of other image file types. If you have another project idea, please check with me first so that I can determine suitability and appropriateness.

1. Create a comic book. The comic book should be able to tell the entire story using drawings and dialog balloons with an emphasis on your chosen theme. This is best presented using a power point.

2. Create a power point presentation that could be used to teach a class about something associated with your theme.

3. Write a child's story about Othello emphasizing your chosen theme that would be suitable for a beginner child reader.

4. Create a web site. The web site should have links to other web sites related to your theme.

5. Write and perform a song related to your theme and turn it into a music video.

6. Create a documentary movie that shows the life of one of the supporting characters in Othello in which he lived as though he/she and the place were real.

7. Place one of the characters on trial for an alleged crime. Portray the judge, prosecutor, and defense attorney. Find people from other groups to act as witnesses. This should be done as a video.

8. Create a game that can be played in class in a Zoom meeting. The game must be entirely invented by the presenting group and may not be one of the “fill-in” games easily found on the internet (e.g. Jeopardy).

9. Do you have another project idea? See me for approval as soon as possible.

ALL MEDIA PROJECTS MUST BE ACCESSIBLE FOR PRESENTATION TO THE CLASS IN A ZOOM MEETING.
