Limiting the topic and performing preliminary research At Begin thinking about a topic for your research paper. Choose a topic that you are very interested in learning more about--anything goes! Your topic can be about a current event, a celebrity, an event in history, a hobby, a scientific discovery, a health issue--ANYTHING that you are truly interested in learning more about. As you research your topic, consider ONE SPECIFIC QUESTION you would like to be able to answer in your essay. The answer to that question will be your thesis. (We will have more on that later!)
