Orientation Assignment Questions
Orientation Assigment 1
Part 1. Based on the presentation, state the definition of self-regulated Learning. Then define, in your own words, what this means to you (1 point)
Part 2. My specific self-regulated learning strategy
1. Decide right now what grade you will earn in the class, not the grade you want (or need), but the grade you are shooting for. Write that grade here. (1 point)
2. Discuss your strategy on how you will get that grade. Consider all the other responsibilities in your life, such as: your family, your job, your church, other classes you are taking, hobbies, health challenges, etc. What will it take? (3 points)
3. I hear all the time about distractions, especially your phone. Discuss your usual distractions, how significant they are, and how you will deal with them. How will you deal with a time-consuming challenge that could come up in a given week (e.g., family emergency, health issues, deadlines at work). (2 points)
4. Now, considering your responses to Questions 1-3, look closely at the specific items to complete Unit 1 (lessons, assignments, discussions, and quizzes). Discuss your specific strategy and how it will allow you to reach your goal (grade) for Unit 1. Be very specific to your own plan; for example, how will you budget Unit 1 into the rest of your life? What items will take the most time/effort? When and how are you going to work on each part of a lesson? When will you take each quiz? How will you evaluate your progress? Will you reward yourself for meeting your goal (the grade you are shooting for) for this unit? (8 points)
There is no right or wrong answer to any of these questions. They are meant to make you think about your own goals and the study habits you must have or develop to succeed in this class (and in life). You will be graded on your honest thought process (and it helps me to help you).
Save your work. You will use it for Extra Credit Assignments 2-5, if you elect to do them.
