An overview of Organizational Goal Setting and SMART Analysis

Goal setting plays a significant role in driving the goals of any firm to completion. Working in the research division in our e-commerce firm, I understand the ongoing competition of new products and strategies in the market place. Unlike in the previous decades where most outlets were based on brick and mortar approach, today, the business has shifted to technology and digital marketing (Morrison, 2017). In addition to adopting new business structures, most multinational and regional businesses are consistently developing new products to remain in business for long. Our firm, Tesco.com, was not left behind in this endeavour. However, to realize the goals anticipated therein, the product development initiative must be backed up by SMARTER goals for optimal performance. The product under development is a universal application where our customers can order any product at any place internationally. It is an application that connects the buyer to the nearest outlet as per their location.

SMARTER Analysis

The acronym SMARTER stands in for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-bound, Evaluated and Readjust. With the increased use of Information and communication technology, most business processes are being done via online platforms. Customers are purchasing through applications and websites, and the products are delivered to their doorstep (Morrison, 2017). After the COVID-19 pandemic, e-commerce business has increased their extent of sales since most people ordered consumables at the comfort of their homes. Therefore, our application must be product-specific and customer-oriented to attain the goal of simplifying our customers' purchasing experience.

The second aspect is a measurable goal. Over the past year, our firm sells products to 2,000 customers daily in the American market alone. However, the customers relent to make frequent reorders as a result of the time taken to deliver the products. With the mobile application, all ordered products can be delivered within two hours from the time of order.

Developing the application is attainable since our company has been using its domain for transactions for four years now (Morrison, 2017). Our customers have the first-hand experience in using the website, which is no different from the proposed application. Additionally, the increase in the use of smartphones increases the viability of the project.

The other aspect to consider its relevance. In addition to improving our customers' experience, the project will also help the firm in adding more suppliers and entering into new markets (Morrison, 2017). The goal is not to increase our profits, but to give the customers a chance to exercise their free will and reduce the purchasing expenses.

Our project is also time-bound. During the first quarter of next year, most firms will be striving to restructure themselves on the one hand, and people will strain to live on the other hand. Therefore, after the project is completed, our customers will adopt the change almost immediately, and the firm shall also expand to new ventures.

The other aspect of our project is evaluation. For the past four years, our employees have been learning how to carry put sophisticated e-commerce procedures and how to respond to customer concerns online (2020). Additionally, we have undergone several inefficiencies and rectified the issues within the shortest time possible. Lastly, the firm has a well-trained team of computer professionals who are managing organizational data and systems.

Lastly, readjustment has already taken place in our firm. Since the Covid-19 outbreak, we adopted a remote working approach where employees work at the comfort of their home. This approach will be adopted for the next decades to reduce the expenses associated with person work (2020). Additionally, the customers have also adjusted to online retail following the Covid-19 pandemic. This is an added advantage to the implementation of the system.

Conclusion

Conclusively, enhancing online retailing is the major approach that all online retailers are striving to achieve. However, only those firms that will add value to customers will hit their goals. With a well-trained IT team at hand, extensive research, overseas markets and remote workforce, Tesco.com will inherently achieve the goal of converging all its operations in one application.
