There is a tremendous change in the legislation concerning the Affordable Care Act, The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) there is needs to evaluate the organizations strategic planning to provide the services that meet the requirements of the said legislation. Considerably, this paper will portray the stakeholders that have added value to the company. It will take into account of differentiating the external and internal stakeholders where an evaluation of their relationship with the organizations mission and vision will be unraveled. The paper will discuss business units that should be subjected to further assessment to support the strategic initiatives of UnitedHealth Inc., and it will analyze the organization is mission and mission statement from the stakeholder perspective. Also the paper will assess the organizations approach on addressing the current healthcare legislation where it will provide an evaluation of the strategic response that is commonly used by the organization.
The UnitedHealth Inc. (UNH) is American based healthcare company headquartered in Minnetonka Minnesota. It is the largest healthcare service provider in the world rendering services close to sixty million people in the United States of America. The services are extended to Brazil where it serves more than four million people as per 2018 data (Conroy, 2018). Among the services provided by the company include, employers products and services essential in planning of their benefit programs serves the health needs among the elderly, offers exceptional care services, maintenance organizations , points service plans and among others.
The UnitedHealth Inc. being a world-leading healthcare provider has many stakeholders who have impacted it positively to realize its goals and objectives these stakeholders include the OptumHealth and OptumRx which provides with insurance plan management services, administrative management services comprising of reimbursement management, patient claim processing services (Conroy, 2018). Moreover the OptumHealth and OptumRx provide other essential services such as distribution of drugs, providing information that is essential in decision making, the medical information management services mainly on the sales and among others. Another important stakeholder is the offers computer services to the company. Also Optumlnsight provides vital services to the organization encompassing, consultation, development, and integration solutions for transaction management, healthcare plan management, processing of data and among others. Significantly the organization has employed over 300,000 individuals who provide essential services, including production and distribution of drugs (Ho, 2017).
The company’s internal stakeholders comprise the individuals working within organization to enhance its objectives and goals. They include the employees, Optumlnsight, OptumHealth and OptumRx. The external stakeholders consist of the partner groups and the individuals who purchase the products and services. Considerably, UnitedHealth Inc. has a mission of helping people to have good health by improving the health systems in the entire world. Various stakeholders, for example, the OptumHealth and OptumRx which ensures that drugs are available in multiple healthcare settings enhance this mission. Provision health of comprehensive healthcare services is among its strategic planning, and thus the availability of drugs is a necessity of an improved health care service. On the other hand the organization vision entails a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Further, the organization embraces five core values including integrity, compassion, innovation, relationships, and performance. These values are aimed to maintain the employee's alignment and thus improves the organization is productivity. Notably, the productivity of the organization will be essential in attaining the affordable care since the products and services will be made available at a cheaper and thus enhance improved wellbeing among the people which the organizations mission.
The stakeholder groups that need to be evaluated to reinforce the strategic organization initiatives include the employees. There should be regular evaluation of employees to ascertain whether they possess the essential skills and knowledge of providing exceptional services that meet their customer test and preferences. Assessment should focus on identifying the necessity of providing training and development that is esteemed to incorporate them with skills that promote the abilities to realize the organization mission statement.
Substantially, OptumHealth and OptumRx should be evaluated ascertain whether they meet the strategic organizational initiatives, aspects of consultation, insurance plan services, administrative management services ought to be assessed regularly. This will make the organization identify its area of weaknesses and make necessary adjustment. For the aspect of insurance plan services should be reviewed to ensure that they conform to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act that aims to provide that individuals can get improved healthcare services at affordable cost (Kubben et al., 2019). As well, it should ensure that insurance coverage has been increased to cover more people to reduce the burden of paying substantial hospital bills. Significantly the Optumlnsight need to evaluate to ensure that it provides the services that meet the organizations' mission and vision. The organization is mission statement is aimed at providing exceptional health services that will help individuals to live healthier lives. Therefore the organization is committed to enhancing its performance of the health systems where it targets on improving the overall health and the well-being of individuals along its area of jurisdiction. The UnitedHealth Inc. has collaboratively engaged with various healthcare providers, and some key partners where they are aiming to provide high-quality healthcare services at a very affordable price and thus many people can access (Mercer et al., 2018). Substantially, the organization is committed to embracing patient-physician relationships in aspects of providing essential information that will enable people to exercise full control over their health, for example, its supports health promotion programs which are vital to make people have personal health choices.
The vision of UnitedHealth Inc. is derived from three co competencies that give a different picture from other health organizations. These three co competences entail comprehensive clinical care management that encourages evidence-based practice, improved health information where they used various tools to interpret data to unravel useful information which is essential in making informed decisions when handling patients concerns (Mercer et al., 2018). Also the organization encourages use of advanced technology on its vision. Technology will provide essential skills and knowledge when dealing with complex patients concerns. Considerably, technology ensures that knowledge is shared among the healthcare providers in a platform that improves patient care services (Tillman, 2015).
The organization uses various approaches in addressing the recent healthcare legislation; these approaches include the formation of healthcare policies where the stakeholders are engaged in forums to discuss their views on the amendments. The organization utilizes meeting with the key leaders where the legislation are discussed evaluated, and necessary adjustments are made to ensure that the organization comply with such law. Notably, the strategic response given is the formation and implementation of healthcare policies (Tillman, 2015).
