Military Paper
Online Module #1 - Exploring the Military Virtual Tour and Paper (15 points)
· Students will visit a website for an Army post, an Air Force Base, a Navy base, a Marine Corps base, and a Coast Guard base and conduct a virtual tour of the military community. The student will create a table that compares the five communities by four factors: 1) what are the priorities reflected on the website, 2) what community services or activities are available for families at the post/base, 3) what connections does the base/post have with the local community, 4) are there any services offered by social workers on the base/post. Hint: suggest you pick a larger post/base as it is likely to have more information for you to work with. Common websites that can be helpful for finding military installations are https://www.military.com/base-guide, https://militarybases.com/
· Student must have a section that describes “what on the websites did you see that seemed foreign or confusing to you?” The intent of this part of the paper is to help the student appreciate the range of unique terms and functions in the military. Even if a student has a military background, the other Services can seem confusing.
· Student will have a section of the paper that describes “my overall impression of the military after seeing the five different military communities.” The intent of this part is to let you react to and consider the environment, priorities, and resources that the military reflects to the non-military society.
· This assignment must be done on an individual basis (no groups). You will be given time in the online classroom to conduct your virtual tours.
· Papers will include a title page and a reference page. Papers are to use APA formatting. The title and reference page do not count in the 3-5 page count.
