Objectives
Many résumé objectives are too VAGUE, too LONG, use meaningless BUZZWORDS, and focus on needs of the job-seeker instead of the employer.
NOTE: An objective that is too SPECIFIC can also be a problem if it eliminates potential jobs that might be desirable.
Examples of bad objectives:
Hardworking, results-driven manager seeking opportunity to maximize my potential in the forensic accounting field.
Looking for a position that allows me to fully utilize my skills and attributes and provides professional advancement opportunities.
Looking for an entry level position where I can utilize my strengths, with room for advancement.
Many résumé experts now say objectives aren’t necessary
They are most effective for people who have little job experience or are planning a career change
Many expects prefer to use a Summary of Qualifications
Typically 1 or 2 sentences
Most effective when tailored to the job you’re applying for
States kind of career you’re seeking
States skills and experiences that qualify you for that career
