Nursing Informatics

Nursing has changed in the 21st century because of technological innovation. The nurses

and doctors have a significant role in the hospital, and it is observed that there are different roles

and competencies in nursing. Technology is an essential need of today, and without it, the nurses

cannot get success. Modern-day hospitals have implemented the role of informaticists, and it is

proposed that our hospital should also have a nurse informaticist role. They have an essential role

in innovating the technology, and the new role is introduced to carry out several activities. The new

proposal is necessary for the competitive market. The following report will discuss the need for

informaticists in the hospital.

Nursing Informatics and the Nurse Informaticist

Nursing informatics is a branch that contains the protocols and practices to integrate

nursing information with the technology. The main goal is to manage and integrate health

information and improve people's health. Nursing informatics reduce the costs in healthcare

because of the technology integration, and the chances of errors are reduced. The chances of errors

are higher in the manual system, but it is essential to consider the benefits and innovation of

technology in the competitive market (Vehko, 2019).

Nurse informaticists have various roles in the hospital. The primary duties are to update the

knowledge about the workflow, inform about the new technology and process implementation,

access the data, and guide the nurses to give the best patient care. There is vast data of nurses

available in the manual system that is not easy to protect, and there is a lot of information on the

healthcare trends. Nurse informaticists have to integrate such data and information with the

technology. For these reasons, the hospital must appoint a nurse informaticist (Goldsberry, 2018).

Nurse Informaticists and Other Health Care Organizations

The experience of healthcare organizations with nurse informaticists is amazing. It is the

age of technology, and no hospital or healthcare organization has not appointed the informaticists.

It is essential to know that the role of such nurses has increased after the coronavirus. Telemedicine

and the use of technology have improved in healthcare organizations, and it has been seen that the

nurses should also update the knowledge in the organizations. It is the priority of nurse

informaticists to help the hospitals to integrate the digital data into the respective database.

The nurse informaticists interact effectively with the other nursing staff and the

interdisciplinary team. Various roles are essential in collaboration with the other nursing roles.

They have to update the information on healthcare technology to the other staff. It has been further

observed that such nurses help the junior nurses to guide the technology use and adopt a

professional attitude regarding the field.

Impact of Full Nurse Engagement in Health Care Technology

Nursing informatics positively impacts patient care and the costs in the healthcare

organization. The technology helps reduce medical errors in hospitals and impacts overall costs.

When the costs are reduced, there is a positive impact on the return on investment. Patient care is

also positively impacted because nurse informatics help trains the nurses concerning process

improvement and enhance the quality of care. Technology can now diagnose and manage several

disorders, so it is necessary to implement such practices in hospitals (Luque, 2020).

Nurse informatics can use the various strategies through which patient care can be

enhanced and data can be protected. The digital data is usually more protected than the manual

system. The evidence-based strategy has recommended that the nurse informaticists practice the

protocols to enhance patient safety and ensure that the nurses are doing well for the patient's

privacy. The nurses' workflow is also improved through nurses' informatics. The extra workload is

reduced, and it is found that the nurses have recognized the different roles through technology

innovation.

Opportunities and Challenges

The nurses have various opportunities with the addition of a nurse informaticist role. They

have updated knowledge regarding healthcare trends and technology innovation. The nurses need

to benefit from the role recognition, reducing workflow. The chances of human error are reduced;

the nurses have someone to ask the queries, and they can face the challenges and competitive

environment easily. There are challenges to working with the informaticist as well. The nurses

must remain activated and updated with the workflow and manage their errors to reduce in the

coming years.

The technology can improve patient safety and healthcare outcomes in healthcare

organizations. the collaboration and coordination between the various nurses and other staff are

necessary. Different strategies can be used to increase the cooperation among the nurses. The first

strategy is to train the nurses that they should update their technical knowledge in the healthcare

organizations. Other strategies involve assisting the nurses in integrating the data into digital

technology. The informaticists enhance the work coordination and reduce the workflow (Backonja,

2021).

Summary of Recommendations

There are different recommendations for the HR manager to remember after the proposal.

The hospital industry has different roles and has distinct competencies to improve patient care and

healthcare quality. The first takeaway from the above proposal is ensuring that hospitals need the

proper information technology infrastructure and innovation. The number of healthcare

organizations is increasing, and it has been seen that all the big names have nurse informaticists. If

such positions are not hired, it will be observed in the coming years that the hospital will not

compete with other hospitals.

The other two take messages for healthcare organizations are as follows: Healthcare

organizations have a lot of error chances because of human negligence. It is seen that there are a lot

of patients and their data in the manual system. If health informatics is not implemented, the

modern infrastructure will not be in practice. Nurse informatics is the branch that helps nurses to

think of their errors and gives them the protocols to reduce the errors. Another message from the

above proposal is to coordinate with the other nurses. Care coordination is essential to reduce the

workflow and improve healthcare quality.

Conclusion

The proposal is to narrate the importance of healthcare informatics in healthcare

organizations. Healthcare organizations have become competitive, and the number of hospitals has

also increased. With the increase in opportunities and facilities of healthcare organizations, the HR

and managers must hire nursing informaticists. If the hospital hires such a nursing position, there

will be several opportunities and facilities. The hospitals and healthcare organizations will be

observed to improve the healthcare quality and the technology integration and innovation.
