As women and men who are being educated to enter the nursing profession you know that communicating with your patient is one critical aspect of care.
How did you feel as you were watching the videos in the module regarding patient’s health care literacy? It was sad to hear that patients will not get clarification with regards to medications or procedures due to embarrassment.
What was the most important lesson you learned from the required video about com municating with your patients? Make sure you provide a safe and open environment where they won’t feel ashamed to say they cannot read or understand without being judged. This will reduce medical errors.
What did you learn from the required article related to nurses and patient health literacy?
What are the best methods to teach and evaluate if patient learning has occurred?
Have the patient repeat back what you have taught them to insure understanding ( even have the patient come back and see if they can teach it back to make sure they did remember ; make sure patient is comfortabl e in the environment to state they do not understand; make sure you are us ing layma n terms; use visual aids
