The ACA includes goals to improve access to primary care, control costs, increase efficiency, and improve patient outcomes. This is expected to increase the demand for non-physician providers. One strategy that is being used to meet these challenges is the use of Physician Assistants. Write a concise paper (body of the paper must be three pages or less) about the expanding use of Physician Assistants. Topics addressed must include:
· Requirements to become a Physician Assistant. What are the educational and training requirements? Is certification or licensure required? (20 points)
· Physician Assistants demographics, projected growth or decline in the employment of Physician Assistants, and pay scale (20 points)
· Settings in which Physician Assistants work, responsibilities, and specialization. Where do Physician Assistants work? What procedures and duties do Physician Assistants typically perform? In what types of care do some PAs specialize? Must they be supervised by a physician and how is physician supervision defined? (25 points)
· How do PAs benefit the healthcare system? Do they have an impact on cost, access, and quality? (20 points)
Be concise; the body of the paper must be three pages or less. Only three pages of content will be read and graded.
The paper must be referenced and in APA format with no spelling, grammatical, or sentence structure errors. You must list your references, and those references must be cited in the text of the paper. Important notes:
· APA format checklist: includes a cover page; every component double spaced; margins at least one inch; abstract no longer than 150 words and on a separate page; all references are listed and cited, and the reference list begins on a separate page.
· Your paper should be concise and to the point. The body of the paper must be three pages or less, and a maximum of three pages of content will be read and evaluated.
· The paper should be based on published literature, and not your opinions.
· You must have at least 5 references. Your references do not need to be peer reviewed journal articles for this assignment. However, they must be reliable sources. You may not use the required textbook for this course as one of your references.
· No more than 10% of your paper may consist of quoted material. Points will be deducted in proportion to the amount of quoted material exceeding 10% of your paper.
