(Nicole)There is quite a lot of film genres. Everyone has their preference. In the first rotation of the Chicago Cityscape video, the music in  the background gives a feel of an older movie, late 70s, early 80s. It seems like it could be a rom-com or just a comedy genre. The second rotation of sound was very slow and ominous. I would expect  this type of music to play in an action or thriller movie The third rotation of music was very out of place. As if it shouldn't be the background for this type of scenery. I would think this would be a comedy as well. The western or country feel makes me think the  film would be about people visiting a big city for the first time.

If I were to pick a song for the background of this cityscape, I  would stick to the look and quality of a video, which seems dated.  I think a city based romantic comedy fits well with this. The song "There she goes" by Sixpence None The Richer.  This is an upbeat song, but it plays into the romantic part with  the lyrics and the comedy as it is upbeat. It sets a scene for  heartbreak or love. Music pulls specific feelings and helps the  directors to guide the viewers to feel what they are intending, regardless of their interpretation. This song has a really nice  dissolve, or slow ending provides a slower pace (Sporre 2021). This will  help transition into the film slowly rather than a cut, where it is more abrupt.  It is important to have non-diegetic music in film because it helps to increase the feelings and moods being created within the scene (Waters, 2016).  Music can also help to guide the viewer through the storyline when there is not any dialogue in that scene.
