As potential leaders in the healthcare field, it is critical to discern the conditions of the workplace environment (Clarke et al. 2011). According to Clark's Healthy Workplace inventory results, I scored 78, which is perceived as mildly healthy. I have always valued my position at my organization, where nurses are given an opportunity to express their views. However, the organization's working environment has experienced enormous changes since the new manager assumed responsibilities three months ago. As such, mildly healthy results are attributed to the negative change in the work environment. The most prevalent reason for the lack of civility at my workplace is the division between the management and staff. The organization despises the staff when making decisions that potentially affect the nurses. In this regard, the staff feels undervalued, thus negatively impacting their performance (Leiter et al. 2011).

In the course of my career, I have always perceived civility as showing politeness and respect to one another. However, I once experienced civility at my workplace, where one of the supervisors failed to address my concerns by giving me a silent treatment. While my inquiries were valid and essential in conducting my duties, the supervisor ignored my presence and forced me to resume my duties without any guidelines on how to resolve the issue. This scenario involved a patient who had raised complaints about her preferred treatment method. However, I reached out to the manager in charge at the time and reported the incident. While the supervisor was suspended for three days, my workplace environment continues to experience a rapid increase in incivility. In this case, I think it would have been appropriate for the manager to engage the involved parties in a dialogue to identify the root of the problem.
