Network Administrator

Purpose of Department

The APD Support department delivers support and maintenance to both internal (IT and Telephony infrastructure) and external (purchasers of APD’s ICCS, Mobile Data and Bespoke product ranges) customers. The APD Support Department’s Service Management Policy is as follows:-

We plan to deliver a high level of customer service and satisfaction through effective and cost efficient support and maintenance services, in a manner that delivers the optimum operational availability, resilience, and is capable of achieving ISO 20000.

This policy applies to all APD Communications personnel, contractors and third party suppliers that provide products and services for all our customers.

Purpose of Job

To assist the Network Manager by providing effective support and maintenance for APD’s Hull, Milton Keynes and UAE IT and Telephony infrastructure.

Organisational Reporting

The Network Administrator reports to the Network Manager

Principal Responsibilities

1) Under direction from the Network Manager ensure that the network fileservers are backed up in a state where full disaster recovery procedures can be implemented with minimum loss of information.

2) Assist in the control of access to the network through allocation of user access rights. The security of the system is of fundamental importance.

3) Maintain project directory structures for active projects and provide ease of access to archived or warranty projects.

4) Assist in the maintenance of APD's communications services including email, intranet, extranet and Internet access and usage and ensure that a current list of active users is maintained.

5) To ensure that ISDN/VPN access between sites is maintained and monitored.

6) To provide user support for company IT and Telephony networks, with Response and Return to Service times as documented in the internal Service Level Agreement.

Typical activities will include:

· Maintenance of accurate records in the APD Helpdesk system re all issues, tasks and information requests logged with and handled by Internal Support

· Installation and configuration of computer equipment

· Upgrading hardware and software

· Investigating and resolving network related problems.

· Assisting users with software related issues

7) Diagnosing faulty equipment and replacing with new components where available. Liaising with third parties for the repair or replacement of faulty goods as appropriate.

8) In consultation with the Network Manager evaluate and recommend further enhancements to the network. This will include hardware and software for system maintenance or end user applications.

9) To assist the Network Manager in the maintenance of accurate licencing of all internally issued software used by APD personnel.

10) Work in accordance with the APD Communications network management procedures.

Skills/experience required

Essential

Microsoft Server 2008 - 2012

Microsoft Exchange 2007 - 2013

Cisco networking – Routers and Switches

Cisco Firewalls – ASA and PIX (VPN Configuration)

Active directory management.

SAN configuration and management

Beneficial

Telephone switch administration.

Experience in the following;

HP Blade hardware

ESXi – configuration and management.

TFS Administration

Sharepoint Administration

Personal characteristics required

Team player, dedicated and professional.

Flexibility, customer facing skills, ability to prioritise and work well under pressure etc. Willingness to travel.

Level of Security Clearance required
