Elevator Pitch
We help commuting students relax/nap in a nice, safe and comfortable environment; by giving them an area located on campus, or offering a traveling sleeping pod. The traveling pod is for students that are constantly on the go. The pod sites are locations on campus that offers that same incentivizes the traveling pod does.
Opportunity/Problem
As a commuting student, I know how hard and tiring it is making running back and forth between classes, work, and home. My sleeping pod locations addresses the constant issues that commuting students have. Several problems we face are, not having a comfortable place to sit down and relax/nap. As a working student, my days are extremely long. I commute from South Philadelphia to Temple University – Main Campus and Center City Campus via SEPTA. My schedule, just like many other working/commuting students, is very hectic. I wish there was a place on campus where I could go that I can call my own little area. The traveling sleeping pod is kind of like a tent. The pod folds down into a bag the size of a carry-on item. The pod includes a memory form pillow and fleece blanket. The pod is absolutely sound and light prof. The sleeping pod also comes with a light just in case if the user does not want to sleep.
Competitors/Status Quo
I have a few competitors on the market. My competitors use their “tents” for office reasons mostly. They market towards white collared workers. The tents that are being purchased now doesn’t have any current issues. My sleeping pod is a variation and offers more than my competitors. I would like to give universities/people the option to buy the traveling sleeping pod, or having universities purchase stationary sleeping pods and put them in one area for students. My competitors answer the problem/opportunity, but my solution is more efficient.
My Solution
As stated earlier, my solution (The Sleeping Pod), gives students that opportunity to relax and sleep in a safe/clean space. Picture a tent, now downsize it… The sleeping pod folds down into a carry-on sized bag. The pod comes in three different colors, navy blue, jet black and gray. The user will still the duffle bag down and unzip the top of the bag. The bag pops open and the pod forms. The pod is cushioned and made out from “black out” material. The user can zip him/herself in or leave the front open. Once the user is zipped in, the outside world is completely gone. No sounds. No light. Just complete silence. Sound like the perfect environment for a nap, right? I also include a free memory form pillow and fleece blanket. The pillow and blanket will match the color of the tent. The sleeping pod also has a light inside, designed for anyone who just want silence and relaxation. My unique advantages are, the built in light and free pillow and blanket. My weaknesses are keeping the pods sanitary. Many people aren’t willing to just lay down and go to sleep in a pod that someone else was sleeping in. I am very aware of that. My product’s face value is higher than most tent on the market right now. My competitors are priced at $95 - $99. I intend my product to be priced at $150. The sleeping pods should be very comfortable and being comfortable cost.
Customer/User/Stakeholders Impact
My product is intended for commuting college students. Universities and parents are more likely to pay for products for students. I feel that many users could come about. Why not young teens? Why not older adults? Why not buy a sleeping pod for your 8-year old’s room? I believe that my product can affect people in a positive way. It is actually very tiring going back and forth from school and home. I just want to create a way that makes it a little easier.
