1. Three brands of the same product I thought of were laptops. I use a Samsung laptop but while searching I looked at Dell, Samsung and Apple. While Dell and Samsung both run Windows operating systems, Apple sets itself apart by running its own operating system. Apple also sets itself apart by typically having a much higher price point for laptops while Dell and Samsung are lower to mid-range price points. Dell used to set itself apart from both Apple and Samsung by offering consumers a chance to build a laptop from top to bottom and make payments direct from its website. However, now that has slowly fallen out of favor and consumers now want a laptop that is more readily available where they can go to a store and purchase and walk out with. Samsung has been making laptops for years however they are not always the first go to brand when laptops are thought of. Samsung has a broad range of price points from $99.99 to $1,499.99 depending on what a consumer is looking for. However, with Samsung most consumers would most likely spend a more middle-tier price point and be more than happy with it.
All three offer different options in laptops. All three Dell, Samsung and Apple make similar products however they offer slightly different options and a broad range of prices. Each are positioned differently with different experiences in how they are perceived by the public and what consumers prefer.
2. Three brands of the same product are Vera Bradley, Michael Kors, and Louis Vuitton. Each of these brands design products such as wallets, purses, and luggage, however, they are all different from one another. Vera Bradley offers products that are more affordable and can be used by individuals of all ages. The designs and products Vera Bradley offer can be used for school-aged children with their backpacks, as well as young and older adults. Michael Kors is a step up from Vera Bradley as far as their prices go. Michael Kors also seems to target age groups other than children. Of these three, Louis Vuitton is the most expensive brand when it comes to their products. Their bags and accessories are targeted for the richer class.
3. the three brands I want to use is Mcdonalds, Wendys and BurgerKing. Each serves as a fast food restaurant but they differentiate by the way their logo states. For McDonalds offer the "I'm loving it", Wendys has the "Old Fashion" and BurgerKing states you can "Have it your way." Although, they each represent the fast food chain and it's main target is for the busy people and kids that parents do not have time to cook before games, drop in for a quick lunch break, or young kids hanging out after school, they have different value as to their taste. You could get a quarter pounder which comes frozen, a flame broiled whopper, or fresh never frozen Daves burger and it's sqared. It depends on the choice of the people you want to serve and their taste buds. I used to love Mcdonald's growing up but hate to go their today unfortunately, I have a nine year old who loves it. My husband prefers fresh from Wendys but will eat a whopper too. Which The Whopper comes with lettuce tomato, onion, pickles, mayo, mustard ketchup, the Daves Burger which is fresh burger comes with lettuce mayo tomato and onions, more of a delux type for both. Overall, I think Mcdonalds has the run because babies, kids and the younger generation screams Mcdonalds and their golden arches gets them going.
4. According to the reading, a product mix is "all of the product lines offered by an organization" (Kerin & Hartley, 2016, p219). Product lines are "a group of products that are closely related because they are similar in terms of consumer needs and uses, market segments, sales outlets, or prices" (Kerin & Hartley, 2016).
One of the 2019 fortune 500 companies that offers a product mix is Amazon which was ranked number 5 on that list (n.a., 2019).
