Group Project Part II: Final

Purpose In this assignment, you will work as a group to discuss and synthesize your knowledge of high-risk sexual behaviors and groups, as well as evaluate prevention and treatment mechanisms for STIs.

Directions This assignment has three parts: Part I: Draft; Part II: Final; and Part III: Peer Evaluations.

For this project, you will work with a small group to create a hand-out about what a college student needs to know about STIs. Groups have already been assigned by the instructor, and you must go the the Groups area to find the group to which you've been assigned. Each group has a Group Discussion Board within their group that can be used for collaboration and communication. You are encouraged to post your ideas and work on the group discussion board frequently and consistently for this assignment.

Your target audience is a college student. Your goal is to introduce the topic of STIs to college-aged individuals and guide them as you see appropriate based on what you've learned this semester. A student should walk away from reading the material with more information and clarity on this topic, as well as a place to turn to for further information. It is important not to overwhelm the reader with either too much information or information that is too "technical" or specialized. For this reason, these projects should be constrained to 10 or fewer PowerPoint slides or a typical 3-fold brochure. Remember this is not a presentation, lecture, or other academic activity. Information should be presented simply and concisely, with an eye to what is "need to know" for the general college population (18 yr olds). However, please keep in mind what the "average" college student is likely to already know about STIs, so provide them with relevant and new information on this topic. Your group will need to:

1. Create a professional hand-out for your work. You can choose to do a brochure, PowerPoint presentation, or website; whatever type of material or hand-out you create should be of professional quality similar to what can be found in a health clinic or school advising office.

2. Decide upon a clear 'take-away message' that will guide and organize your project 3. Determine what information from the textbook, PowerPoints, internet, and other sources will be included in your material.

4. In addition to your textbook and course materials, I will expect that you use at least 2 credible websites to inform your materials and guide the student to additional answers. One of these outside sources should be used as a "for further information" referral. Refer to the suggested websites in the Group Project Resources section below to begin your research.

Grading This group project is worth 50 points toward your course grade. Late projects will lose 5 points each day they are late until officially submitted. Your grade will be assigned based on the following criteria:

1. A clear take-away message that guides and organizes the project 2. Appropriateness of STI concepts chosen for target audience ("need to know" and relevance) 3. Accuracy of concept descriptions, examples, applications 4. Use of textbook to inform material (as evidenced by in-text citations) 5. Use of at least 2 credible websites to inform material and direct additional inquiry (not just provided as citations, but used in

the project itself with at least one website provided for further inquiry) 6. Professionalism of brochure, PowerPoint, or website (attnention to language, style, format, images, etc.) 7. Within length guidelines (3-fold brochure or under 10 page PowerPoint) 8. Appropriateness of the writing and format used for this audience/purpose (clear, concise, understandable, simple) 9. Citations in APA format. Plagiarism may result in a final assignment grade of F. Refer to the Plagiarism Reminder below.

Refer to the Group Project Grading Rubric page for more information.

Each student will receive the same grade on this project based on the final product submitted to the discussion board. However, students will also have the opportunity to grade their group members' contributions to the project. These peer evaluations may raise or lower individual grades on the group project. See Part III: Peer Evaluations for details.

Directions for Part II: Final The final product of your group work is due on the due date listed. I expect to see evidence that the group considered my feedback on their drafts present in the final project.

Final group projects must be submitted here for grading and posted to the CLASS Discussion Board titled "Module 10: Discussion - Post your Group Project Final Here (https://learn.vccs.edu/courses/601731/discussion_topics/7231927) ". Projects are not considered submitted until they are posted to the discussion forum so that classmates can learn from each others projects.

Grading Late projects will be reduced 5 points for each day they are late starting at 12:01 a.m. Monday of Week 11.
