Practice Activity: Writing Measurable Outcomes

Answer Key

Now that you have had practice with identifying appropriately written objectives, let’s see about writing some objectives of your own!

For each one, write an age appropriate, measurable outcome. Then check your answers on the other page.

Below are some possible answers. Make sure you have the format (At the end…), a measurable verb (only one), are focused on learning, not doing (unless doing is what you are assessing), and have some wording to show how it’s clear and specific. Also, make sure it is DAP for the grade level listed. If you are unsure of one of your answers, please contact me.

1. The Earth Grade 2

At the end of this lesson, SWAT list the 7 continents.

At the end of this lesson, SWAT hypothesis why oceans have waves.

At the end of this lesson, SWAT explain how geography influences the way people live.

2. Shapes 4 year old

At the end of this lesson, SWAT name 4 basic shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle).

At the end of this lesson, SWAT match each of the basic shapes to an item in nature/the real world which contains that shape. (circle, square, triangle, rectangle).

At the end of this lesson, SWAT identify 6 shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle, oval, star)

3. Fractions 3 grade

At the end of this lesson, SWAT identify the following fractions: 1/2, 1/4, 1/3. 1/8.

At the end of this lesson, SWAT color in the fractional amount asked for on the pie chart (1/2, 1/3, 1/3, 1/8).

At the end of this lesson, SWAT sort fractional representations/pictures into their respective groups (1/2, 1/4, 1/3, 1/8).

4. Pets 3 year old

At the end of this lesson, SWAT name 2 animals that make good pets.

At the end of this lesson, SWAT explain 2 things we have to do to take care of our pets.

At the end of this lesson, SWAT match a pet to its’ habitat.

5. The Story of Cinderella Grade 1

At the end of this lesson, SWAT compare and contrast 2 versions of the Cinderella story.

At the end of this lesson, SWAT sequence 4 major events from the story.

At the end of this lesson, SWAT discuss 2 characteristics of Cinderella.

6. Winter Kindergarten

At the end of this lesson, SWAT tell 3 characteristics of winter.

At the end of this lesson, SWAT sort items relating to winter and summer into their appropriate season.

At the end of this lesson, SWAT hypothesize why it snows.

I have tried to use a variety of verbs here, to show both how the same verb can be used in different subjects and/or age groups, and to show both lower and higher level thinking.
