Mod. 3 | “Walk, Talk, Cook, Eat” Reading Response (Assignment)

As you work on your Unit 3 project, you will be expected to incorporate sources (through quoting or paraphrase). This assignment is meant to help you understand the effective usage of sources, so that you can apply these lessons to your Unit 3 project.

Step 1:

Read " Walk, Talk, Cook, Eat Links to an external site " by Cynthia Haller.

Step 2:

Respond to the following.  The total word count for your answers should be at least 300 words and include at least one direct quote from the article with appropriate citation. Refer to pages 434-438 in Chapter 23 of our textbook for an explanation of how to cite quotes.

Haller provides 4 metaphors for using sources: walking, talking, cook, and eating. Explain metaphor in your own words.

How do you understand the difference between cooking with sources and eating sources?

How does Haller explain a peer-reviewed article in a scholarly journal? (See page 197)

What is the purpose and importance of documenting the sources you use in your research? Relatedly, what is the connection between documenting your sources and your own credibility as a writer?

Haller describes the ways in which sources can forever change the way we see and understand things. What is one time in which something that you read, learned, and/or researched has impacted you and your thoughts/perspectives? What has been the most influential source you've used for this project so far (influential in terms of shaping how you think about the topic)?

How does this reading help you understand how to use sources in your own writing?
