WHITE PAPERS AS A MARKETING STRATEGY 3

Yasheka Smith

1. How might this organization’s white paper strategy and tactics be applied to other organizations or companies?

Soroptimist’s use of the white paper strategy was instrumental in the organizations message. Soroptimist has been researching and publishing white letters on issues important to women and girls for several years (Exercise Case Study, 2011). By using the white paper strategy, SI was able to stay organized and substantiate many of their objectives and goals. The group used white paper in meetings to lecture and educate their members on current and historical information and financials. They also used the white paper strategy to promote programs and projects that were important to their mission. This white paper strategy can easily be applied to other organizations and companies, to educate, promote awareness and mission essential projects the same way. The white paper would not replace your other marketing tools but would be in addition to them (Simpson, 2016). It is a good foundation to build on.     2. What are some of the possible drawbacks to using white papers to influence people?

White papers are strategic and instrumental in today’s marketing world. Many top agencies still utilize the white paper. However, there are a few drawbacks to the method. White paper can also be considered bias and may even compel some people to display a lack of interest in because they are so tedious. White papers are full of statistics and numbers, not a lot of engaging material. They are also very time consuming to create and requires a lot of research. Although they are intended to be informative, it can also make people feel as if you are minimizing their intellect. Marketing messages in a white paper should be as subtle as possible, if they appear at all (Barker, Barker, Bormann, Zahay, & Roberts, 2017).

1. How might this organization’s white paper strategy and tactics be applied to other organizations or companies?

White papers are an important tool not just for the Soroptimist International of the Americas but can also be an important tool for organizations as well. In it's most basic form a white paper is an informational sheet that an organization can develop for open forum discussion and to help meetings along. (Barker, Barker, Bormann, Zahay, & Roberts, 2017). Some other basic uses, as used by SI, is to get out information about a company or organization in a simple white paper format. SIA uses White papers in many ways that most organizations could; educate member, promote program, educate the community, interest media and even raise capital. (Exercise Case Study, 2011) If I had to start a non-profit organization, white papers are one of the many ways that I could use to get the organizations name out there.

2. What are some of the possible drawbacks to using white papers in an attempt to influence people?

Just like with any good idea, white papers can have some drawbacks or cons to them to potentially outweigh the good. White papers can be time consuming to create. They are important documents that will be read by an entire organization so it is important to have advanced, accurate information in them or else the organization will not take them seriously. (Erdman & Erdman, 2017)Some people could think that white papers are not very exciting to read because they are filled with a lot of facts and statistics and that is not everyone's favorite thing to do in their spare time.(Erdman & Erdman, 2017) Also, due the amount of facts and statistics in them, white papers cause the organization to do a ton of research. (Erdman & Erdman, 2017) This research phase goes back to the original point of them being extremely time consuming.
