Mixed methods research designs combine quantitative and qualitative research methods to answer research questions requiring both perspectives. APA 7, 2 references less than 5 years.

Mixed methods research designs are considered to be the procedures of having a collection of the specific data for the research and analyzing it by having the use of both the quantitative and the qualitative research methods within a single study and thus helping on having a clearer understanding of the research problem under study (Fetters, 2019). A qualitative research method is noted to be involving the collection and analysis of non-numerical data like videos, and audio and thus getting to understand the different opinions, concepts, and deep insights on the research topic under consideration. On the other hand, the quantitative research method is considered to be the processes of research that include the numerical data and having an analysis done on the data and thus being much relevant in the making of predictions, results in generalization, and making of averages for the wider relationships that are under consideration (Creswell & Creswell, 2022).

The benefits of having the use of mixed methods research designs include having the validity of the research being carried out increased and thus having more reliability to the understanding of the topic of study. There is also the benefit of having externally valid insights into the data, detailed and also contextualized insights of the qualitative and quantitative data (Fetters, 2019). The demerits of having the use of mixed methods research designs are that it's noted as being time-consuming and also expensive due to both procedures of qualitative and quantitative methods applications at the same time in data collection and analysis. Also, it's noted to be requiring a greater deal of expertise and effort to be employed in having studies of the phenomenon as there is eh consideration of two different methods of application. Also, mixed research methods are noted to be having an issue with the successful integration of qualitative and quantitative data in the interpretation and analysis procedures (Panke, 2018).
