The corporation makes a variety such as automobiles, solar panels, buses, rechargeable batteries, forklifts, and mobile phone batteries. The study will examine how the BYD of China utilizes operational management operations to offer items and provide value for its customers. Also, it will analyze ways in which the firm achieves a competitive advantage using operations management. Additionally, the paper should compare and contrast the firm’s industrial operation and service operation in the case study.

a. Functions

The company has diversified its portfolio and has a range of businesses. The management ensures that there is control of people, manufacturing, technology, and other resources to achieve its objectives. Initially, the company was a battery administration business but it expanded its operations to include making of mobile phone (Quan, Loon, & Sanderson, 2018). Later, the company diversified into renewable energy sources and automotive industry.

b. Competitive Advantage

The company capitalized on low-cost production where they rely on internal knowledge advancement to make quality and cost-efficient items. The company constructed and sold batteries at a reduced price compared to its rivals, as they had a lower production cost. BYD phones were better in quality than their competitor as the firm had intensive research on their products before making their products. In their motor vehicle manufacturing ensured that they created cars that had been specifically suited for their client’s requirements. Further, when the company started creating electric vehicles, they quickly embraced technology faster than their competitors making their items more preferred.

c. Compare and Contrast

BYD manufacturing sector entails the manufacture of electronics, rail transit, new energy, and automobiles. The company is involved in building cars and mobile phones. In their service operations, the firm has service centers that ensure their client has easy and quick access to care, parts, and expertise for their cars. The two operations complement each other and ensure that clients get services for the BYD items, making them satisfied. They differ in that the client can decide to take their BYD items for assistance elsewhere. Both manufacturing and operations offer clients value as they get quality items from the outlets and get specialized services from the same company at a reduced price.
