Note: The course textbook explained how the United States is not alone in aging population challenges. We are facing the age wave behind other industrialized countries but further ahead in handling our age wave from less industrialized countries. In looking at other countries and they way they handling aging social issues, broadens your thinking beyond that just how it is done in the United States.

NOTE: This is not a report on the issue. I am interested in your ideas and what

you find out from other countries. There is not a minimum or a maximum

page requirement. However, more pages does not mean a higher grade.

I. Design your own 'best' proposal for your issue. A. Only hitch is your solution cannot require any government spending or enacting any laws. As we have also been learning in class, government monies have been dwindling and are expected to continue to do so. If you want to propose a change in in legislation, such as raising retirement age you MUST identify what you think the chances of this happening would be and who would oppose the change.

B. The idea of the assignment is to be creative in your solution. Looking for the Next Big Idea. Example: alms house were developed in response to individuals after the American revolution, the facilities were rough which lead to some organizations establishing separate facilities for their older adult members which was a step up in housing for some but not all. The creative idea that sprung from need for better care was Assisted Living. An idea that started in Portland Oregon in 1985 and spread to become a billion dollar industry.
