In completing the Midterm Paper for the course, each student will apply course knowledge to real world disaster events. Descriptions of the two events being compared should be covered briefly and succinctly. Specifically, a comparison of the sinking of the R.M.S. Lusitania disaster to the student's choice of a modern-day disaster with primary emphasis on relevant concepts applicable to each disaster will be completed. Resource documents on the Lusitania disaster are in the links below for reference.

The following elements should be examined in the paper:

A comparison of the public's reaction to a modern-day disaster of your choice to public reaction to the Lusitania disaster

Be sure to include descriptions of public reactions to both disasters in the comparisons provided

Examples of modern-day disasters include, but are not limited to mid-20th century through 21st century current year; 9/11, Hurricanes Katrina or Sandy, the Pakistan/India earthquakes, the London Subway/Bus or Mumbai bombings, the Paris terrorist attacks, the Pakistan/India earthquakes

Identify three major psychology of disaster concepts and apply the concepts to the public's reactions to the two disasters

Summarize what lessons were learned, or should have been learned, from the two disasters that may be applied in future disaster situations in support of the immediate and long-term mental health recovery of survivors.

Papers should be formatted in APA (6th edition) formatting style, include a separate Title page, Reference page, in-text citations, using Times New Roman or Arial font, Size 12, and be a minimum of 7 to 8 pages of content (excluding the Title and Reference pages). A minimum of 5 scholarly sources must be included, with at least 3 being peer-reviewed, academic publications.
