How Applicable?

Gloribel Torres

         Greetings,

Competencies guarantee that the right people at the right level of the corporation is ready to accomplish optimal performance outcomes. The American Hospital Association state that competencies are a combination of “knowledge, skills, personal characteristics, and individual and social behaviors needed for an individual to perform a job.”

As a professional register nurse, and ICU manager, this theory of competencies values is indispensable, it will allow me to have a healthier relationship with the ICU team members and a better understanding of their needs. Cooperation and organizational values will improve within team members, so forth everyone that is part of the team will be able to uphold high ethical standards, and comply with the Vision and Mission of the organization.

Ethical Issues

HIPAA law's main goal is to make available access to medical health insurance, control scam, and misuse, and decrease organizational expenses, it also focusses on the safety and confidentiality of health information while identifying and avoiding errors and threats due to malicious or criminal actions. Protected Health Information (PHI) is any information related to patient healthcare, delivery of care, billing, or any private data that is created while the patient is admitted to a medical institution. HIPAA Privacy Rule recommends Federal safeties for private healthcare data held by organizational entities and offers patients a variety of privileges concerning their personal information. (Kartman, 2018).

Having an understanding of the ethical requirements and being conscious of the HIPAA laws and regulations will help me promote the compliance of information privacy, ensure confidentiality and secure medical information of all the patients. Will ensure that every employee will observe, defends, and maintain the privacy, truthfulness, and accessibility of PHI, and to identified and avoid mistakes and threats due to malicious or criminal actions.

Steven Dean posted Nov 6, 2019 10:00 PM

Competency is defined as the possession of observable and measurable knowledge, abilities, skills and personal attributes to enhance and improve performance and result in the success of the organization (Karami, et al (2017). Knowledge comprises of facts and principles obtained from formal training. Skills are developed in the mental and physical process through specialization. Ability is the power to perform activities related to a given profession. Attributes are the qualities and characteristics that reflect and individual personality. (Weech-Maldonado, et al (2018).

As a professional medical doctor, this concept of competencies values is essential in ensuring my duties with exquisite professionalism and experience to offer quality healthcare services. Being competent in my duties will enable better relationship and understanding of patients and their conditions, therefore, attending to them will be easier and faster. Teamwork and collaboration will be enhanced with fellow staff members. I will be able to uphold high ethical standards to be emulated. Through being competent, it will ensure the success of the organization.

The Concept of Ethical Issues With HIPAA Basics

Concepts on HIPAA basics revolves within three majors rules. The Privacy Rule, the Security Rule and the Breach Notification Rule. The Privacy Rule set national standards for when to use and disclose protected health information. The Security Rule safeguards the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the medical information. The Breach Notification Rule applied in notifying the affected individuals (Moore, & Frye,(2019). they involve the confidentiality, privacy and security of protected health information within a medical facility. Confidentiality requires the holders of medical information with absolute confidence. Privacy is the right for individuals to make decisions on their information. Security entails the protection of medical information. (Ozair, et al (2015).

As a professional medical doctor, understanding the ethical requirements and adherence to them will help in my profession in the best ways to acquire, record, store and secure medical information from patients. I will be able to ensure integrity, confidentiality, privacy and security of medical information of all the patients.
