MGT 4337: Final Project Guidelines and Grading Guide
Overview
The final project for this course is the creation of a Company Financial and Strategic Performance Review Report. Firms need continual detailed analysis of financial and strategic performance to ensure the continued success of their strategy and to adjust inadequate or obsolete elements. For your final project, you will create financial trend analysis, break down various elements of your strategy, and project future performance. The project is divided into two milestones, which will be submitted at various points throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality final submissions. These milestones will be submitted in Modules 3 and 5. In this assignment, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following course outcomes:
● Collaborate with classmates to make business policy decisions based upon authentic scenarios ● Apply specific methods of analyses to make data-informed decisions regarding corporate social responsibility, production operations, facility
management, worker compensation and training, shipping and distribution of products, pricing and marketing, and financing company operations
● Evaluate operations, financial, marketing and human resource management strategies in order to recommend business policies or make decisions
● Generate business strategies through analysis, formulation, and execution
Prompt
Part I: For your final project, you will submit a two- to three-page narrative about your strategy, explaining the following:
● The strategy you tried to follow ● How you implemented that strategy throughout the semester ● What went right and what went wrong (this should be a general account of how successful or unsuccessful your company performed and
why) Part II: You must also include the following additional sections with your report:
1. Company Financial Performance Review: Integrate any feedback you received in Milestone 1 and update the trend analysis charts you submitted in Milestone 1 by adding data points for all ten decisions years of the simulation.
2. Company Strategic Performance Review: Review what you wrote for Milestone 2 and see if it is still accurate now that you have completed all 10 decision rounds. Also, be sure to integrate any feedback you received from the instructor for your original milestone submission. If needed, update the descriptions of your vision and strategies to accurately reflect all 10 decision years.
3. Future Performance Targets: If the simulation were to go another two years, what performance targets would you set for the following? ○ EPS ○ ROE ○ Credit rating ○ Image rating ○ Global market share ○ Stock price ○ Dividend increases (if any, given the EPS targets you established above)
4. Closest Competitors: Identify the following:
○ Companies you consider to be your strongest/closest competitors in branded footwear as of the last year or two of the simulation ○ Companies that are your strongest/closest competitors in the private-label segment of the marketplace ○ Explain the actions you would take to out-compete these close rivals in the next two years (assuming the simulation continues for
several more years). Since the actions may differ as between branded and private-label footwear, you may well need two sections here.
Milestones Milestone One: Company Financial Performance Review In Module 3, you will individually reflect on the financial and strategic performance of your company thus far. This Milestone is graded with the Milestone 1 rubric. Milestone Two: Company Strategic Performance Review In Module 5, you will evaluate the strategic vision; competitive strategies; and production, workforce compensation, and finance strategies to evaluate a simulated company's operations. This Milestone is graded with the Milestone 2 rubric. Final Submission: In Module 7, you will submit your final Company Financial and Strategic Performance Review Report. It should be a complete, polished artifact containing all of the critical elements of the final product. It should reflect the incorporation of feedback gained throughout the course. This is graded with the Final Product rubric.
