Job Analysis Assignment

Note: Read Chapter 4 in your textbook before beginning this project.

The goal of this assignment is to give you some exposure to the process and outcomes of a job

analysis. In this exercise, you will practice conducting an interview and/or a direct observation of

a job. The job can be one that you are interested in or one that you have easy access to (e.g.,

consultant, coffee shop worker).

****NOTE: You are welcome to conduct the initial interview and/or observation described below virtually (e.g., Zoom, Skype, phone). You are NOT required to do this face-to-face****

The deadline for this assignment is Monday October 25, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. You will submit via Dropbox on eCourseware.

You will submit a two-page double spaced summary that will answer the following: 1. What is the job description for the job that you selected? 2. What are the KSAOs required? 3. How would you evaluate these KSAOs based on frequency and importance? 4. How can the company use the results that you obtained to make personnel decisions?

The checklist below will help you prepare for the assignment and draft your two-page double

spaced summary:

Select a job that you have some interest in/or familiarity with.

Select a person who holds that position (cannot be yourself) – this person will be your subject matter expert (SME.

Familiarize yourself with the job on O*NET: http://www.onetonline.org/

Conduct an initial interview and/or observation with the SME (This should take around 30 minutes to accomplish); please note that you are welcome to conduct the initial interview and/or observation with the SME virtually. You are not required to do this face-to-face.

Create a list of task statements (essential job functions) based on your O*NET research and SME interview/observation.

Create corresponding knowledge, skills, abilities, and other requirements (KSAOs) for

each task statement.

Evaluate the tasks and KSAOs on frequency and importance.

Create a job description for the job you selected. Use your textbook and O*NET for guidance on this.

Draft a two-page double spaced summary of how you conducted the job analysis and how the results could be used to make personnel decisions. List the KSAOs of the job and elaborate on the frequency and importance of each of these KSAOs. In your own words, narrate the job description for the job that you selected.

IMPORTANT: It is imperative that the interview and/or observation conducted as part of this assignment be conducted in an ethical manner consistent with the basic practices used in human subjects research. In other words, although this is a class project and not a research endeavor, your interviewee should be informed of the basic procedures, guaranteed complete confidentiality, given the opportunity to withdraw from the interview at any time without consequence, and be debriefed regarding the purpose of the interview.
