METHODOLOGY & RATIONALE 2
Methodology
The type of research on exploring the emotional intelligence used by business leaders
in the United States in enhancing effective team communication is qualitative in nature. I
intend to carry out a cross-sectional study in a period of one month in 20 business firms
around the U.S. I will issue open-ended questionnaires to the different organizations. For
each firm, I will pick a sample of the total population of employees, and another for the
administration. The questionnaires will be electronic, and will require the employers and
employees to fill in on what they know about emotional intelligence, whether it is used in the
organization, and its effects so far in enhancing group work. I will employ deductive
approach for the analysis of the data collected from the firms. I will specifically use
computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software (CAQDAS) packages to manage and
analyze the collected data. I expect that the organizations which are keen on emotional
intelligence will have effective team communication.
Rationale
The research topic on relating emotional intelligence and team communication is very
important to study because the findings will help those organizational leaders who have not
embraced emotional intelligence to understand its benefits to the team. The research will also
display the difference between the organizations which practice emotional intelligence and
those that do not. One of the drivers for this study is that there exist few materials which
speak about the importance of emotional intelligence in improving team communication in
various organizations. It is an area which is overlooked by most leaders, and that’s why it is
important to understand what it is about before suggesting to the various firms to incorporate
it.

METHODOLOGY & RATIONALE 3
There is need to fund this research because businesses have to understand the
importance of embracing emotional intelligence in their daily operations. For any business to
be successful, there has to be team work among the employees and the employers. One way
to promote teamwork is by understanding how to control and manage emotions. When people
get emotional, even those around them are affected in many ways. If both parties do not know
how to handle the emotions, then the end result will be disastrous. It is, therefore, a
requirement for leaders to have the skill of emotional intelligence in dealing with their
employees. In fact, it is recommended that every member of the organization should have the
skill for peaceful co-existence. The study aims at showing the importance of embracing
emotional intelligence in improving effective team communication in organizations.
