Medical data analysis with data mining

Introduction

Information technology is now getting more and more involved in the medicine and health sciences. Healthcare processes improvement has a high impact on the quality of life of patients. The aid of data mining algorithms has constructed various healthcare Decision Support Systems and are now widely used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics. These systems are proved to be very useful for medical experts as well as for patients in making the decisions and are developed using different methodologies. The process of gathering the input data and to present output information’s is different in various methods. Any computer program that helps experts in making healthcare decisions comes under the domain of the healthcare decision support system. Data mining technology provides a user-oriented approach to the novel and hidden patterns in the data. Healthcare users can use this knowledge to improve the service quality. The perceived understanding can also be used by the medical practitioners to reduce the number of adverse drug effects, to suggest less expensive therapeutically equivalent alternatives. The main objective of this paper is to illustrate the data mining algorithms on the healthcare decision support system.
