Negligent security is defined as “When someone is a victim of a criminal act due to inadequate security on business or private property”. Negligent security is a huge concern when an individual is injured by a third party tries to hold the owner liable when criminal injury is inflicted. Negligent security assumes that the crime could have been prevented or least mitigated by appropriate security measures and policies being adhered to.

Robbery, rape, assault, battery can all be proponents of negligent security. The relationship between private security and the public is built on cooperation. There are certain areas of conflict including a lack of mutual respect, lack of cooperation, lack of standards, and lack of knowledge in security procedures. If your security professionals on site are not working in line with the policies laid out in the security plan by the security, then you’re creating a case for negligent retention. Being negligent in the performance of your duties not only puts yourself at risk of losing your job but you employer can face sever penalties or lawsuits. Training is another area where a high degree of negligence can be found. Poor training in firearms safety and discipline and de-escalation techniques are but just an example of negligent training practices. Negligence is security can also be considered a major vulnerability. Negligent actions by members of your security team can increase the probability that a crime could happen in dereliction of their duties.
